XP. Vista has so many problems compared to what is now a very stable XP.

Vista is being preloaded on tons of things though. It sucks. Imagine having a pop up to say you have a pop up. Lame crap

At my old work, I'd get an e-mail every time my email server blocked a spam message, notifying me of that fact.

Not too long ago I bought a new Sony VAIO with Vista on it. I tried it one week and downgraded it to XP. Very happy with the notebook now though!

I am not very knowledgeable about Vista, and I have heard many bad things. But I've also heard that the high-end computers (new and expensive ones) have considerably less problems with it, and since I'd be buying a new one, I'd probably dual boot Vista and a Linux distribution.

Everyone cries about Vista. I have had it for over a year and not one single issue.

    Vista is not bad.

People need to accept change and learn how to use a computer.

I like Vista, but make sure you have enough memory and processor speed.

It wouldn't matter as I use Windows much less than I use Linux.

For gaming and a bit of web surfing (Firefox - NOT IE) I use Windows.

For CD/DVD burning/ripping, multimedia, HTML, torrent downloads, graphics editing etc. etc. I use Linux Mint, once it installs (takes about 20 mins) I have everything I need, no drivers to look for or software to buy/activate and I don't need/use antivrus when I'm using Linux. It took a little getting used to but Linux is my primary O/S now.

I like Windows too as Ive been using it since 1995, I prefer the community in Linux though..

They are people who like to jump on the band wagon an for no apparent reason whine, whine, whine until their noses bleed.

It's a fine OS. If you don't like some features, then just learn how to turn them off.

I'd go with Leopard! I made the switch to a mac a year ago and I'll never buy another Windows machine again!

2 months ago I would have said XP no doubt. Now that Im used to Vista, I actually like it.

What makes VISTA so much better than XP...nothing its a OS microsoft bombed on trying to push it to gamers, to make it more mainstream. Instead, they passed and stayed with XP. Vista gives no clear cut reason to upgrade.

Its a less desired OS for gamers. Its annoying, and not worth the hassel. Alot of people request pre-built units with XP for a reason.

Vista Bombed, and Microsoft will revisit the OS in 3-4 years watch.

I'm a CSC major and I'd recommend you XP. I'm not sure what you use your machines for so I can't say it's the best, but in general thats what I'd recommend.

No problems with Vista here but if I had to do over I would do Mac OSX Leopard in a heartbeat. A linux server would be cool too but I just don't have the drive to do computer science stuff anymore.
