As you might or might not know, Mr. Nina travels a LOT in his job. This year he has been overseeing a project in China which has required a rotation of 3 weeks in China, one week home, 3 weeks, etc. He got in Wednesday night from the latest stint over there. Then Friday he flew to Oklahoma and then to California yesterday. He should fly home tonight and then leaves again for China on Wednesday. And to make you sure you have all the pertinent facts, he and I live in different states, about 3 hours from each other.

So...Thursday night, out of nowhere, he asks me what would I say if he had to stay in China until the whole project was complete which is about 18 months.

How the heck am I suppose to answer that? We started seeing each other almost 2 years ago and then he got busy with work and I stopped hearing from him for about a year. Then last fall, he e-mailed me, asking how was I and all that. I responded cause I really like him. And things have been wonderful and all that since then except that trying to get together is a pain. And now 18 months in China maybe? Was I suppose to say "I've always wanted to go there."?

He said that he has received another job offer from an automotive company and will talk to them. That will put him closer to where I live now but I can tell he really enjoys his job even though the travel gets to him at times. And he is about to currently add 4 members to his staff to take up some of that travel. And lets face it....automotive industry v. gaming industry means he has more job security with gaming and gamblers. I can always count on you guys for that.

So, gents (and ladies cause I know you will have lots to say too) how was I suppose to answer that? I want to make sure to get this answer right. He brought it back up Saturday night so my guess is we will discuss it again before he leaves Wednesday.

I wouldn't read too much into it, you're a chick. Let him make the play. I don't think you should have to force the issue about moving there, if he wants your company there, he'll sack up and ask you about it. Then, presumably, you'd know how to respond from there.

He didn't "ASK" you to move there... He didn't say "how do you feel about moving to China.?" This sounds like he is doing what most people do and that is put their job ahead of their real future... His job means more to him then you do...

There is that slight possibility that he is waiting for you to ask him to go but I don't think so... I think he is preparing you for the fact that he might not be back.... at least for a long time..

My perspective is differant then most... I believe my future wouldn't be hearding around people or spending hours designing something... You don't make kids with that... The REAL future is the girl you end up with that has and raises your children... If he cared to that degree about you he should either ask/want you to go or throw boxes around for $10 an hour and sacrafice (in reality NOTHIHG) to be with you...

Nina, I think the fact that he asked you how what you would say rather than just telling you he was going (and the fact that he's willing to look at other jobs) says that he does care about you and doesn't want to lose you again.

I'm with Robyn. You'll never know if you don't try. Tell him that upsets you. You should also let him know that you're not sure you can wait 18 months for him to come back (even though I know how much you care for him). Considering the past you two have, he seems to think you'll always be waiting for him...even though you and I both know it was just sheer luck that you were single when he contacted you again. At this point, you should be a more important fixture in his life.
