this was an interesting topic today at the pool hall this afternoon. i'd like to heard what some of you guys think the % might be.

i said that 65% of the colleges out there pay there players.

i think less than 5% of "colleges" directly pay their players, but i would say about 30% of boosters shell out some cash for the athletes.

Payments are much bigger for Div I but even in Div III although you don't get direct payment, you get paid to work and you don't always have to be there.

The SEC might be 100%. Hell, Alabama got caught paying players while they were still on probation. If they got caught twice within that short of a time, it's hard to think they are the only one's doing it.

All the major conferences do it in some fashion Razz.

as far as Alabama goes. the almost came close recieved the death penalty a few years back.

65% is way too high. I'd say about 10% or less direct money..but booster clubs and "favors" i'm sure are everyone in the top division 1 schools.

Usually more than 50% to 80% of players accept some form of payment. Have to remember these kids really dont have a job, so forms of payments are like a lunch at Burger King, $10 gift card, $20 dollar bill and etc. All the schools do it in some way or another. Depends if the player or players can keep their mouth shut. When people open their mouths like Clarett and Chris Webber, that is when NCAA is forced to investigate because the media is on their ass prety bad. Its like at a party, most cops know young people are gambling, smoking weed or drinking. Cops really don't like to mess with that kind of stuff with all the paperwork they have to do afterwards. Same With NCAA that want to get paid, people keep their mouth shut, and have a good day. If you were a cop do you really want to do 5 hours of paperwork for underage drinking, when you can be doing something else. You need to look at the human side of emotion on these matters. Part of living life, is to make money and be successful and not do 5 hours or to do 5 months of paperwork for the reason of a booster buying Chris Webber a double cheeseburger for a $1.00. Does anyone understand what I am trying to say here? Does anyone agree?

I was friends with a lot of basketball players back in the day, they are surrounded with all this money one way or another. Every single one of them loved money or loved to gamble, do you really think they will change in the NCAA, no way Jose.
