Default If you lost it all, what (legit) job would you take?

I would have to bag groceries.

I know JJ would do some BDSM webcam stuff for big bucks, but what about the rest of you?

You could take bets like Moe from the Simpsons. Think he kept his roll in his boots.

Well, I didn't lose it all, but I lost what I was willing to risk on sportsbetting. Long stupid ridiculous story. Most here are familiar with it.

I got a contract writing artificial intelligence software. It's a blast and my free time is spent working on very interesting problems instead of fooling with this #$%*% sportsbetting @#&$%.

Not that I am bitter or anything. LOL

Default There are so few legitimate jobs available.

Start looking around at people you know and put their lives under a microscope.

How many are doing well because they inherited from every relative under the living sun? Those same people that gave inheritances away ran up medicaid bills and gouged social security for a lot more money than they ever contributed. Then the poor schmucks that are wage slaves have to pay for all these entitlements and they don't inherit a penny.I'm not saying there should be an inheritance tax either because that's not something that should be part of the free market system we don't have. When Hillary or Obama get in office it will be about the time I inherit a meager sum for the first time in my life from my dad selling the family house and dividing it 4 ways in a slow market and I will get financially raped when an inheritance tax will be passed.

Yikes, off on a tangent here so I'll get more tot he point as to why there are so few of us lone wolves out there who have to take jobs that are available where no favors were handed out etc.

I know so many people that work for some branch of the government where they do absolute makework and get paid 50K-80K.Two guys I know work at a state run ski hill and got the jobs because they married into families who had politicians in them so it was a nepatism- cronyism deal as to how they got their jobs. One of the guys I went to school with sits on his ass for 5 out of the 8 hours a day and just meters a lite volume of mail and makes a postal run and UPS run once a day.The other guy is a relative who just promotes the place and goes to conventions,seminars.etc.The state pumps in tons of money but the place never makes a profit because they pay all these layers of cronies royally. Then to boot, this state run ski hill competes against the private hills and many lose business because they don't have an endless supply of government subsidies.

I can name so many departments in city, county, state and federal, industrial military complex, academia and medical who do this same stuff adding layers of useless as a tit on a boar people to fill makework jobs.

Then look at all the people in a family where the wife, husband or kids are on some trumped up SSI social security disability program that brings in $$$$ to a family. How many of these types also win big phoney lawsuits from everything from sexual harrassment suits to fake whiplash lawsuits.Look at the hefty percentage of lawyers and chiropractors who do nothing but these litigation suits.

Then you have construction companies-unions and they are nothing more than special interest gangs who hire cronies and relatives to work on public works projects.

There really aren't a lot of great jobs for people that don't belong to a special interest group gang these days. You have the service sector and I guess you have a lot of phoney bologna con men there too.Take the mortgage and banking industry for instance where brokers created a housing financing industry out of thin air loaning money to people who had no business getting loans.

Wherever you look there really isn't a lot of production going on in this country. Most people that brag about their good jobs are actually a drain and burden sucking the life blood out of the economy dry.I hate to ever quote a monster tyrant like Hitler but when he called certain people useless eaters he did have a point.

It always pisses me off when I hear comedians make fun about the so called losers and poke fun at Mickey D burger flippers. They should be making fun of the people in the special interest gangs that I mentioned above. They would be too afraid to do that because they would get whacked!

P.S,an afterthought, how can it feel good being a wage slave with no connections making crap wages when you turn on the news and hear that Spitzer's whore is going to make a few million doing Penthouse spreads, giving interviews and being a fake celebrity. What a sick country!

As I said above I absolutely love being a bartender and I'm assuming that would slip into the wage slave definition. I can be happy with it for now because I'm still young and will be going back to college (now college is where the real con lies) in the fall.

For now I can be happy making $7.50 / hour and tips, its only 2-3 days a week so I have plenty of time for the important things in life. It is very unfortunate that there are people who make more than many of us will ever see just based on a marriage or a handshake, but comparing the average Joe to these parasites is hardly fair. The only option to make this "fair" would be to pay equally for hours worked despite skill or labor (i.e. Communism) or impose an even further graduated income tax to force out higher wages.

For those of here on here that don't need to work and can make a successful living capping I salute you and envy you to an extent. For now though I wouldn't give up my wage slave job even if I had the money to do so.

Sorry, just waking up. If the logic in there is broken just pass on over me.

I'd either work with the non-profit sector or sell business ideas - not too far off from what i'm trying to do now anyway.

I have personally "started over" many times. My last "slave" job was a bartender, but that was 16 years ago. Since then I have started several companies. From small retail stores to a online super-store, at least it was back then before the online craze, and of course, my favorite, a three floored bar. Of course that was the past and each time I had some reason to move on, like a restless soul. Nearly each time I had little or no money by the time I would decide to start something "new", but always found a way to raise the money or have other "companies" take a chance with me. Each company required at least 18 hours a day of work with no days off. In the end, it seemed I would burn out after a few years.

Anyway, if I lost it all, I would just get up, dust myself off, take a moment and start all over again doing the same thing as I do know, but from a different angle. I currently am a "semi-professional" sports prognosticator and have a small online business that pays the bills. I could do this for years to come, but really would like to turn pro and drop the online business. Once I do, I will post my "little" online business here so many of you can earn extra cash while staying at home.

Ah, not yet, not yet. Not that it would happen, but you could end up being in competition with me and it could effect my bottom line. I doubt it would, since I only scratch the surface and could easily make four times the amount I do if I was planning on doing this for the rest of my life. However, at this time, I am not willing to put my livelihood on the line. I am projecting to turn pro in about one year, so near the beginning of MLB next year. Of course anything could happen between now and then. We shall see.
