Default Bush should NOT lose Heisman...

He was simply the best college player. Why strip him of it? The trophy is for the best player. Makes no sense.

If they get paid then why go to class? Do you know how silly it will be if they get paid thousands to play in college but also have to go to class and get grades? Imagine going to a class and you sit next to a football player who makes thousands every week and you make $5 an hour to pay for tuition. What will stop these guys who get paid thousands every week for paying some other student to do their homework?

it is hard to say, they probably should get a little money, but then if you pay them makes it even easier to accept money, they can say they used all their salary on a car when really an agent got it for them

Back to the topic of discussion. Him receiving cash did not make him a better player.

Pete Rose was one of the best baseball players of all time,he's been stripped of his of his place in the HOF.Most of these systems are flawed.

he should lose it, either give to whoever else in the voting wants it or vacate.

I think the question to me is should Leinart keep the trophy when he played with Bush?

I think it does make sense. He has since been found that he was inelgible during that time for taking gifts, cash, etc. So he shouldnt have been playing in the 1st place. Just like olympians who's medal's are stripped from them months or years after they won it for doping results. Marion Jones anybody? Now whether these guys should be paid or not is a seperate argument, he did cheat based on the rules that were in place at that time.

There are 150 or more colleges with football programs with 60 players per team. Out of the 3,000 college football players who graduate each here 200 make it to NFL camps and half of them are cut before opening day. So only a small percentage of college football players graduating each year 3-5% makes the NFL rosters and the majority of those who make it are out of the league in 3-4 years.

He became an ineligible college athlete. So while yes he was technically in college he lost his amateur status , So YES he should get it stripped. I mean I dont dislike Bush but he became a "professional" the second he took money.

Too prestigious of an award to have a dark cloud hanging over.

Find 85 rich kids who give as much as the gates at 7-8 home games per year for 4-5 years, plus parking, concessions, souvenirs, etc, and then I will listen. You are now talking upwards of 20+million per years versus a few millions. Big freakin difference. Any one who matriculates through college pays a finite amount, a player makes a university an almost infinite amount.

As others have stated...the question of paying college athletes is completely different question. And do you only pay the "revenue generating" athletes? Or do you pay everyone? And who determines how much?

Now, do I think Bush was the first guy how won a Heisman who got a little money pressed into his palm by a grateful alumn after a game? Hell, no. That said, Bush and his family broke the rules.

Ok, I don't think its wrong to pay the players, so I don't think Bush did anything wrong? He should keep the Heisman, Pete Carroll should not be coaching ANYWHERE, and SC should give back all of the BCS championship money from bowl games Bush played in. Go after the school, leave the players alone.

You are right.

However, it also made him a professional player the moment he took cash.

This isn't rocket science. The ballot on the Heisman calls for the best "amateur" football player. The moment the Bush family started pocketing hundred's of thousands of dollars----ummm, he was no longer an amateur player.

ESPN displayed a Heisman Ballot---along with their by-laws---and it clearly states----"If any designated winner has his amateur status revoked, this award can be forfeited".

Pretty clear to me.

Its bullshit that there trying to take it away from him.He shouldn't have to give it back, its not like he was juicing or doing anything that gave him an edge on the field.
