This shows just how irrelevant the rankings are. It's all about numbers (RPI, SOS, conference affiliation, quality wins/losses, etc..). The way the rankings work is as long as you keep winning you keep moving up. There is no rigerous logic to that. About 5 years ago there was a team ranked in the Top 25 who didn't even make the tournament.
People get obsessed with rankings thinking they are legit...sorry to say, they aren't.
That's why a lot of guys profess absolute disbelief when they see Purdue only -2.5 against Baylor. In fact, LVSC has Purdue listed as the most overrated team in the country. Anyway, the way the postseason is set up is the best possible way to determine a champion, so we'll see how good Butler and others are.
