there has been quite a few times this season this exact same situation involving Purdue and they still covered. Last game of the year it was this type of situation. I wouldn't touch this game because illinios has been in this situation a lot of times also. where all the money is on a team but the line goes the wrong way and they still get drilled. My opinion? If Ohio State covers then i would take Purdue. If Mich State covers I wouldn't touch it.

Post-Season History:
Matt Painter's a young coach with an even younger team-- 2 years of combined post-season experience from their first five guys.

On the other side, the Illini have a senior leader in Pruitt who has been to the Big Ten Tourney championship game and won (though he was riding the bench back then). Weber has had the Illini in 3 of the last 5 Big Ten Tourney championship games-- and the Illini have been in 5 of the last 9, including as the 11th and 5th seeds in 1999 and 2000 respectively.

This Season:
Purdue and Illinois met twice.

The first meeting, at Purdue, Illinois was up the whole first half and by 9 as late as early in the second half. The Boilermakers came back to win by 7, 74-67.

The second meeting, at Illinois, the Illini lost by only 8 (83-75), after shooting only 16.7% from 3 in the first half (score at half was 39-31 -- the Illini matched the Boilermakers point for point in the second half.)

Illinois is not as bad as their record (when they're playing well) their five regular season wins were all by 10+, 3 by 18+. 9 of their 13 losses were by less than 10; only 2 were by more than 10. They play teams pretty closely; this is conference play-- what's more conference tourney play-- and anyone can win; and for the Illini, this is a win or die game. Purdue's going to the dance no matter what.


Still, if I had to play it, my gut says Purdue minus the points-- so I'll probably stay away.
