Default Should a book be held responsible for copying a bad opener?

So Cris/Greek post an opening line. This line then gets copied by several other books. At some point the originating book stops offering this line because they realize something isn't right(injury or something else that would affect the odds).

If a player now bets this line at a copying book, should the bet be honored?

I just had bets cancelled by a book over 18 hours after placing them on grounds of being a bad line. Line service histories confirm the line at which I bet was offered by both Cris and Greek as openers. Upon reopening 12 hours later, the line was way different based on new info.

Shouldn't the original bet be honored by any self respecting book?

We are gonna have to consult Tony of 5 Dimes for the answer to this one. They have the most experience with bad lines.

Tony will tell you it's cancelled because "God" said so. Then he'll tell you to go F yourself because he can. Then he will say you should be thankful that he allows you to play there.

    Question answered Kat?

OK, that pretty much sums it up. We don't have to bother him now. Not that I would Tony!! I know you are busy and all--taking care of the world's problems.

book beware. If you copy bad numbers, live with it. I don't think a book should cancel a bet if they didn't do their own linesmaking. If they are lazy and copied Cris, eat it if it's bad.

Great, now can you get this book to agree before the game starts in 20 minutes?

Seriously this is bad, I wish I could cancel the bets I no longer like 18 hours after I place them.

Greek has been known to put up wrong #'s on 2nd half totals on the late late games in college hoops occasionally just to screw the copycat books.

Then put the # where it should be seconds later and watch all the copycats scramble.

To answer your question, it would depend on what sport and how off the # was.

If you can't tell a bad number on a second-half college game, you don't have any business dealing it.

Thanks for the interesting tidbit about Greek's 2H.

The # was identical to the only 2 other books that my lines service says dealt a line on this game overnight. Compared to the line 18 hours later when they decided to cancel it, it was way off. The sport is NHL hockey.

Unlikely but are you a Frank I might know, based on my posting name?

    Simple answer:

PLAY B+ AND ABOVE BOOKS ... ANYTHING ELSE SUX!

Well I'm guessing you are talking about Atlanta -270 over Colorado

Any single person who bets hockey would know that Atlanta would not be favored by that much vs anyone. They are in the bottom 5 teams in the league

They should eat it for blindly copying and having such a lazy, incompetent bafoon for a linesmaker.

Regardless of the accuracy of the source you should be responsible for the accuracy of your lines. If you copy from a bad book, you should have to live with the bet. If you are smart enough you will look at more than one book before setting your lines.

Some crap books claim a line that's only off by 20 cents from the market line is a "bad line."

    Default Movie Black Sunday 1977

I just mentioned this movie in a post today. It was called Black Sunday with Bruce Dern 1977 where he plotted to blow up the Super Bowl in Miami with the Goodyear blimb being loaded with explosives.I saw your post concerning interupting a game to have it voided to save a bad bet last night and when I watched the movie I thought of you and the post the whole time.It was meant to be a serious movie in 77 but with time has become a comedy. The NFL,CBS and Goodyear actually approved this movie being made helping out with all them agreeing to be a part of the movie.Strange!Wouldn't happen today.
