For the second time this week, the Seattle Seahawks have landed a free agent running back. NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the team reached an agreement Friday night with former Cowboys running back Julius Jones.

Details of the contract's length and terms are still unclear. Both the Jones camp and the Seahawks are being tight lipped due to the sensitivity of the deal. This week, the Seahawks have signed former Lions running back T.J. Duckett and have now landed Jones, leaving less room in the backfield and on the team's salary cap for former NFL MVP Shaun Alexander and/or Seahawks running back Maurice Morris.

I figured Dallas probably would after the year Marion Barber had last year.Jones will probably start next year for Seattle considering it looks like Alexander is on his way out,and an injury proned Duckett has never lived up to his 1st round status.Seems like a good move for Jones,God knows they could have used him last year.

Alexander commands way too much money, I'm not sure how many more years he's inked through but he's clearly very very overpaid in relation to his level of production and where he's at physically. Maybe this is a better year for him but I think it's clear that the writings on the wall.

The average career life for any position in the NFL is 3 years. It's a meaningless stat as far as this discussion is concerned. You can't cut a guy just because he's exceeded his 3-year career life expectancy.

Alexander is entering his 9th season. For comparison, Westbrook is entering his 7th season, LT his 8th, Jamaal Lewis his 9th, E. James his 10th, & Fred Taylor his 11th. These guys are all in the same range, and most of them are coming off career years last season. Alexander just got tripped up by an injury last season, he'll be back.

Seattle is just stockpiling RBs to add some depth. Probably to push each other and cut the weakest one after training camp. Holmgren said this is his last year as head coach, so they're just trying to stockpile talent and build depth for a big run his year, I think.

That's what I'm hearing also. Sounds crazy to cut the guy, I think he's got some gas left in the tank. They must've given him some messed up contract that they never expected to pay him in 2008 anyway. I don't know what his cap number is, but it must be way way outta whack if they actually cut him.
