Default Felix Hernandez or Tim Lincecum

Who would you prefer to build your staff around?

Hernandez for me. This guys stuff is amazing. Not that Lincecum's isn't but FH has it all in my opinion.

Hard to say, I wouldn't say either are a lock to be an ace yet.

Lincecum is much more consistent, Felix is much more dominant when he is on.

I think Lincecum has better long-term potential. If he can raise his average level of performance a little bit, he could easily turn into one of those starters who gives you 7 IP 2 ER most times out.

Felix, on the other hand, really needs to find a way to be more consistent, otherwise he will always be a guy who alternates dominating and getting shelled, which is fine, but not someone to "build a staff around".

Of course, it's hard to tell as of now who will have more durability. My gut tells me Lincecum will be prone to arm troubles.

Lincecum, unfortunately, could have some injury problems around the corner. I hope not, though, as his stuff is awesome and if he can stay healthy he will be a better version of Roy Oswalt.

Lincecum will be as good as anyone in the league, imo, if he gets a 3rd pitch thats above average. His curve is ridiculous.

I read that Oswalt has messed around with a knuckle ball a bit. I can't imagine he'd throw it in a game, but that'd be interesting after seeing 95.

Also, can the Giants fire Brian Sabean already and hire Billy Beane as GM? Sabean is a retard of the highest order and I got to see his big offseason signing from 2007 get shelled for 8 ER in 2/3 IP on Saturday against the mediocre A's. Meanwhile, offensive production will be atrociously low this year. And to think Sabean was trying to trade Lincecum in the offseason.

Oswalt is a good pitcher, but he got completely outpitched by Lincecum in Lincecum's second home start last year. I should know...I had seats 2 rows up directly behind the plate.

Both have plenty of upside but Tim Lincecum has a little more IMO.

Is this assumption based on his diminutive stature? Or because of his unorthodox and violent delivery to home?

Both. He looks to me like he's going to lose some of his explosiveness relatively early in his career, as many do. Of course, if he can learn how to be effective with location and all that stuff, learn "how to pitch", a la Greg Maddux or whatever, then he could well have a long and stellar career.

But to my eyes, if he's is going to exclusively rely on fearsome stuff, he will soon run into problems and/or injuries, after a relatively brief period of excellence.

But that's just my general take, I'm not a scout or anything.

I think the argument that his size makes him an injury risk is overstated (Hudson and Oswalt are examples of relatively smaller pitchers who have been durable).

I do, however, think there's something to the point of Lincecum's delivery leading him to being more susceptible to arm trouble than the average pitcher.

I would take Lincecum. There is a great mental aspect to pitching. Hernandez has already reached his potential. Lincecum is more intelligent, and has a larger mental capacity. The guy is going to be competing for Cy Young awards. for years.

    Why?

Sounds like a racist statement to me.

    Rjt,

Mostly his delivery. I've heard a few people say his delivery is actually very smooth but I don't buy it. That said, he is a joy to watch.

    2pac,

He's not going to win any Cy Youngs any time soon since you need to have a good W-L record for that and he will get a lot of losses and no decisions due to the lack of offense by the Giants. It's not going to be pretty.

The bullpen actually wasn't that bad last year. Just a lot of blown games because they were in so many close games due to the awful offense.

Im not a Hennessey, but we'll see how Wilson fairs as the closer.
