For baseball, just go down a list of Astros and Cubs, maybe toss in Mattingly with them.

Baseball I'd have to say Ernie Banks for those that no longer play, and A-Rod among the active players.

Very, very good point, Madcapper.....It's just that Banks never even got to the post-season if I recall correctly. In fact, the Cubs never even came close to the playoffs until a few years late in his career. (Mind you, Williams only played in the World Series in '46). And while I know A-Rod has been in the playoffs consistently, I don't think he's ever actually been in the World Series.....

Teddy Ballgame is a good name for the list. And if you want to go back really deep into the baseball annals, you can throw in Nap Lajoie.

In fact, there are several Hall of Famers who never were on a team that won the big banana. Rod Carew is always underrated in my opinion. Earl Averill, hell, half of the people who consider themselves knowledgeable on baseball can't even tell you he's in the Hall of Fame. How about a couple of Giants, Willie McCovey and Barry Bonds?

Banks has always been a popular player in this category while a couple of this Chicago teammates are overlooked, Ron Santo and Billy Williams. I remember when the arguments about whether or not Nolan Ryan was Cooperstown worthy were at their peak, and people would shrug The Express off because he was 'barely a .500 pitcher.' They didn't have much to say once I reminded them that Banks was a .487 shortstop.

Nap Lajoie was one of the best, if not the 2nd best behind only Hornsby, second baseman in the history of the sport.

You know he's the answer to a very famous trivia question: Who was the first player to be walked intentionally...with the bases loaded!

And I might say Mark Martin for the Winston/Nextel/Sprint Cup.

In the NFL, gotta say Marino, but Jim Kelly deserves a mention. Barry Sanders was great, but he played for the Lions. lmao. Junior Seau is still playing, but I don't think he'll get one. Seau dominated the NFL at LB for almost a decade until Ray Lewis came into the league.

In the NBA, Karl Malone. But, Charles Barkley deserves a mention. If it wasn't for a guy named Michael Jordan, these guys wouldn't have been shut out.

I'm too young to really know many players before the mid 1980's.

I have to say Marino when you compare him to how good he was at his sport..... not to say Sanders, Banks, and those guys weren't awesome but Marino set the standard for QBs.

Does college football count in this thread?

Peyton Manning has to be the greatest college football player never to win the championship. He was always ass wipped by the Nebraska team I think?

PP & KG are probably on the top of the list of current NBA players without rings. I hope they get theirs this year, this team seems pretty special.

But I think the question was about being the best player at your sport and while Anna is beautiful, she was never a good enough tennis player to win a championship.

Why do you guys think he's so ugly? Racists.

    KIDDING!

I have a thing for him...I can't help it. I'm nt saying he's the best looking guy out there...I just think he's a great player that's put a lot of work into the Celtics when he had no one else of value to help him out and for some odd reason, that makes me want to reward him in very naughty ways.

    And I bet he's HUNG.
