SBR Micro management is getting silly now
"Posters, feedback has been decidedly against animated avatars at SBR, and for that reason the site is adopting a new policy. For those posters who currently have an animated avatar, please take the time to remove the avatar and replace with a static image file."
-
That is seriously the dumbest thing I've ever read on any forum. Especially one that prides itself on expression, or, used to. You can't have any animated avatar? What?
Can we say micro management?

Just saw it and changed mine back to the piggy as I don't want them to ban me. I need my JJ guidance to continue punting but this ridiculously dictatorial quashing of freedom of expression is eggregious and embarrassing, particularly since I just brought 3 new folks to the forum, largely because I told em the place was fun and "laid back." If folks are offend by animated avitars they can simply select the option to not display avatars. WTF?!

You could say that to rationalize not questioning anything in life. this is just simply an awful restriction, it can be blanketed behind "feedback", but I doubt any meaningful majority of our member base is "against" animated avatars. that's just incredibly stupid. the only avatars I've seen complained about are those that have half nudity in them, which doesn't make sense because you can get still shots of sexy chicks and blow your cover at work. to just be against animated avatars in general is really a lame restriction. you can go on a damn ps3 forum and see animated forums, we're grown men, wtf?

I'd prefer the avitar restriction lifted but I'll take some freebies. Why not? THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! Outrageous I say!
JJ, please intervene here. This is madness! Folks can turn avatars off if it slows down loading time.

That option is to block ALL avatars.
What would be more sensible, since management is concerned about the hundreds of people (probably 10 or less) that contacted them furious about the forum featuring animated avatars, make an option under everyones username to hide that users avatar. That way you don't have to block every single avatar, and don't have to prevent members from using an animated avatar just because some people don't like them.

It is a shame, diogee, nay an outright travesty! SBR was the place for one stop shopping. Sure some of the pics were racy but when I logged on at work each day I simply turned off the avatars and turned them back on at night. It was a thing of beauty. It was... I would get home at night and on the same sight I had my porn and my gambling. Talk about heaven. I can't tell you the # of times I whacked off to mofo's avatar, in between refreshing box scores on Yahoo! Sports.
SBR just killed a very good thing. I think mgmt is misguided. I think they expect this new initiative will attract a higher quality poster. Such efforts will fail as the reality is that 99.9% of SBR posters (and potential new recruits) and gamblers are lowlife degenerates. We are porn loving punters who get off on action and T and A. Give the poeple what they want, SBR. Do the right thing for those of us who have loyally supported you.

I just read the sticky that SBR posted. its says "Posters, feedback has been decidedly against animated avatars at SBR." what feedback? who was voting on this?
And with that said, I don't give a shit, doesn't make no difference to me, but i would like to know how this was voted on.

That's what I'm saying. I bet if they stickied a poll for a few days there would not be an overwhelming majority of forumheads opposed to animated avatars. I can't even recall the last forum I've posted on that's had some silly restriction against them. That's a petty type of restriction. If they are concerned about some people who dislike them, simply give an option to block individual avatars instead of taking something away from everyone.

If a bigger part of ur business (customers) is against it ... I see a good reason to do the adjustment.
Not that I cared of the animated ones ... but I would agree to the decision if it does affect many.

When I first got here I tried to upload an animated avatar but it wouldn't let me. So I went with a static one. I must say I do enjoy some of the avatars here. But such is life and it really doesn't bother me.

I saw it, but I'm not interested in placing my avatar in a profile type of page. I, like others who use animated avatars, like to broadcast mine along with everyone else on the forum.
I'd like management to give us a ballpark figure of just how many people are actually against animated avatars, maybe I'm way off here but for some reason I can't wrap my head around them being flooded with messages asking to remove them all. I think this falls along more of a micro management type of deal, if it doesn't, let management sticky a poll and let all forum members vote.

If the ppl at SBR .. the ppl that make SBR exciting to visit do not get what they wish ... then management MUST come out clean and give a good reason.
Fair is fair.

Sorry Guys... We had some good Gif movies.
We wanted to lower the file size and put the brakes on all the movement going on when you are reading a thread. Some threads were starting to get to the point where the left sides all the way down were flashin.

Bill, if folks found that distracting they could simply elect to turn the avatars off then. This option, as you know, is in USER CP. Why even have that option in the first place then? Management really wimped out this time, Bill? Disappointing.
