Default With Kidd, are the Mavs now a favorite in the west?

they've lost stack, harris, diop, george and perhaps ager.

The west has been very active in the last two weeks and I think that the NBA champ comes out of the west, San Antonio is going to have big issues now. And I do think this will help the Mavs and I think they will have a good shot at winning the west if Dirk can actually step up and play well.

They really paid through the nose to get him, now the pressure is on Kidd and the team to win the title or the trade will be bashed.

It's anyone's guess right? Mavs, Lakers, Suns, Celts...its going to be about chemistry. If we learned anything from international hoops whooping the big NBA names, it's that what's on paper isn't most important. If the Spurs are healthy?

Lakers are the favs IMO. Adding Gasol with giving up little. And Bynum will come back before the playoffs too.

Kidd helps. But how much better is he than Harris? Stackhouse was always good off the bench too.

Plus, they hampered their future.

Stackhouse will be bought out and return to Dallas.

Kidd wont send Dallas over the top. Lakers, Spurs, Suns all too tough

No way. Kidd does not make the Mavs a title contender.

They still have a problem up front. They got rid of Diop. So, all they have is Dampier?

And please don't tell me Dirk is their big guy. He plays like a girl.

Agree with MC. If Bynum can come back in game shape, then the Lakers are a force to be reckoned with!

Their frontline vs LA???

Dirk, Dampier, Howard vs Gasol, Bynum, Odom?

Dallas will get DESTORYED on the boards.

Then you got Eddie Jones and Kidd vs KOBE and Fisher.

Then you have the Lakers bench which is head and shoulders better than Terry and the Mavs bench.

Then you have Phil Jackson vs Avery Johnson.

How will they get destroyed on the boards with Jason Kidd added on? And you are not factoring in defense, Dallas is way ahead of LA there.

He's a hard worker. Too undersized playing the PF position.

Will get destroyed against the other bigs in the West.

Amare, TD, Gasol, Boozer...

I am surprised they got rid of Diop though, they probably needed him to make salaries match though

kidd doesn't play defense and he doesn't shoot the 3 all that well, so what does he really give this team that they didn't already have?

He already came through dallas once, come by twice?

It will allow JT to move to the shooting guard (more natural position) and I don't know what else...

You are right though. Kidd can't shoot for squat.

I'm sorry, what? The Mavs didnt even have to give up any of their core and some people think it was a bad trade? The Mavs kept Nowitzki, Howard, and Terry. That is their core of 3. If the Lakers could have gotten Kidd without giving up Bryant, Odom, and Bynum(before getting Gasol), you dont think they would have pulled the trigger? C'mon. This is a great deal for the Mavs.

horrible horrible trade for the mavs. kidd is washed up and cant hit a shot if his life depended on it. and they give up 2 first round picks also, wow they really overreacted to the other moves in the western conference.

after looking at the full details of this trade cuban may have hurt his team for the next decade or so, this is a good example of why owners shouldn't make decisions concerning personell.

Harris was more of the core than Terry.

Cuban will have 21.3 million coming off the books after the 2008-2009 season with Kidd. If this doesn't work in the next two years, Cuban has a huge amount of money to spend on a premeir free agent. Great trade for the Mavs. There is no way this kills their future with Kidd coming off the books in 2 years and freeing up that kind of salary cap for them.

Apparently George blocked the trade per his contract agreement. Here is the link from espn.com
