That depends to some extent on how the person met you. Through a mutual friend? Through a place where you hang out? At a sportsbar where you pay by credit card?
It also depends on the dollar amount you owe and the background and personality of the bookie. Some people (like me) would have a new mission in life "I'll track that honky mo fo down and make him pay if it is the last thing I do". Other people would chalk it up as a cost of doing business.
I would be willing to bet though that this bookie knows more about you than you think.
