Default Florida Panthers player Zednik's jugular cut by skate

Am watching the Fla/Buffalo game and Richard Zednik was cut in the neck by a skate. Not even a second passed and the amount of blood on the ice was unbelieveable. Report is they have stopped the bleeding and he's in stable condition. If anyone remembers Clint Malarchuck from about 20 years ago you know how terrible a sight this is.

they do get cut by the skate every once in a while, not as much as you would think, its when it gets one of these main arteries when it becomes a huge worry.....This looked terrible and you can bleed out in like 5 minutes if not treated........Its good to hear that he will be allright.....

From the Associated Press:

Florida forward Richard Zednik was in stable condition at a Buffalo hospital while having surgery to close a deep gash on the right side of his neck, which was sliced by a teammate's skate during the Panthers' 5-3 loss to the Sabres on Sunday. Zednik was behind the play and skating into the right corner of the Buffalo zone when teammate Olli Jokinen was upended by Sabres forward Clarke MacArthur. Jokinen fell head-first to the ice, and his right leg flew up and struck Zednik directly on the side of the neck.

Hockey players seem to get the most life threating injuries. With catching a puck or a stick in the head or neck. Or gettng skated on from somebody while on the ice. These are some tuff dudes.

In high school our hockey goalie got nailed in the throat with a slapshot in practice and dropped like a rock and quit breathing. They performed a tracheotomy on him and he really came close to not making it.It wasn't long after and CCM came out with this plastic beard dealie to prevent that from happening.

The thing that makes me cringe about hockey is how after a big win in a championship everyone clears the bench and they jump on each other forming a pile. Not to be a killjoy but if I were a coach I would put the kaibosh on that form of celebrating.

It does happen from time to time. Mostly on the ankles and calf muscle.

You can YouTube Clint Malarchuk and watch the video. Pretty grusome stuff though so you have been warned.
