Being a structural engineer it's sad to see all the destruction but unfortunaley the best defense against a tornado it's prompt warnings and shelters for people to escape the path of the tornado. No building codes exist that enforce protection of buildings from tornadoes.

As an insurance adjuster and I have worked a ton of catastrophes like this and it is terrible how this turns peoples lifes upside down. My prayers go out to all of them.
