I feel bad for both Marion and Phoenix. Shaqs prime was 10 years ago. He is beat up and carries a large contract.

Are they going to trade pound for pound? Phoenix needs to throw a skinny guard with Marion for the trade to be even.

Shaq would have still been an asset just like he was for Miami 2 years ago,but he is just too slow, and he just lumbers up the court. He hasn't been in real good shape in years. If he would of gotten down below 300lbs. about 5-6 years ago he could have extended his career, but now his great mass is starting to play against him.I don't know why he thought he had to weigh 60,000lbs.I think it was some kind of ego thing with him being the biggest guy in the league.Well now it's biting him in the ass.

I think a trade should be a win/win ... here ... all I see is a win(Shaq)/loose (Suns) deal ... Shaq aint that dominant anymore ... he always finds away not to play ...

Marion is always wanting to go somewhere else. I dont know why though, Phoenix fits his style better than any other team. He would not get close to the numbers with any other PG.
If this trade happens, Phoenix would be out of the title hunt for good.

This would kill the suns. . . Even if they improved for the next year (which they wont) this hurts this team bad. Im so tired of trade talks about marion, he is one of the best players in the NBA and a great fit for the suns style of offense. I really hope they don't make this move

Quote:
The Heat has told center Shaquille O'Neal's representation that it is talking about trading him and he should be prepared for the possibility of a deal, according to two officials close to the situation. Phoenix has discussed sending forward Shawn Marion and point guard Marcus Banks to the Heat in return for O'Neal.
Asked for confirmation, one of O'Neal's representatives said O'Neal has been made aware that discussions with Phoenix are serious and ongoing, but that a deal was not definite.
Dallas also has been mentioned as a potential destination, though the Heat had not immediately informed O'Neal of that possibility.
O'Neal, 35, was shocked by the turn of events, an associate said. O'Neal helped lead the Heat to the 2005-06 championship, but Miami has struggled since, losing in the first round of the playoffs last season and opening this season with a league-worst 9-37 record.
After this season, Marion can opt out of the last year of his contract worth $17.1 million. If Marion opts out, trading O'Neal would give the Heat substantial salary cap space this offseason, when potential free agents include Gilbert Arenas, Baron Davis, Elton Brand, Antawn Jamison, Ron Artest and Corey Maggette.
Marion, 29, is a four-time All-Star and considered one of the NBA's most athletic small forwards. Marion, 6-7, is averaging 15.8 points and 9.9 rebounds.
Banks, 26, is averaging 5.2 points and 1.0 assists. After this season, he has three years left on his contract worth a total of $13.4 million.
O'Neal, who has been out with a hip injury, has two years left on his contract after this season. He will be paid $20 million each of the next two seasons.
On Tuesday, coach Pat Riley said O'Neal was scheduled to have a magnetic resonance imaging exam on his ailing left hip, which has kept him out the past six games.
''We just want to back it up and see, after two weeks, what it shows,'' Riley said.
Riley gave no indication as to when O'Neal would return to the lineup. Riley said O'Neal must strengthen his legs before returning to action, and that the center will be one of six players to miss Wednesday's game at Detroit.
Heat officials were on their way to Detroit and could not be reached for comment.

Stupid Move for Phoenix if they do it. Seems like they are panicking because of the Lakers acquiring Pao Gasol. Being a Laker fan I hope the Suns do it and ruin there team for a few years with that salary hit.

Everyone is thinking the samething Suns = Running Bball which doesn't = Shaq. Marion WILL OPT out of his contract after this season because he is a retard thinking he willl get more attention else where (hello Joe Johnson). The way Suns see it, Shaq will be back healthy for the next two years, and will dominate for two years. As most know basketball slows down in the playoffs, making Shaq a potential big key to success. Suns are trying to get something for Marion before it's too late.

Shaq is so out of shape, he needs to drop 40lbs to be at a good playing weight again. While not impossible it won't be easy. Shit I can't even drop 20lbs irl he has to do 40lbs asap...
He's washed up, I just don't see much value in putting shaq on the court for 20 mill. I mean we all know Marion is leaving but I dunno about shaq thing. Obviously Heat are going to try to get Arenas/Brand/Davis/Artest to come to them via FA. They need 2 people to help Wade out. If they don't get at least 1 Wade will walk.

8-10 years ago? wow you are the dumas around here. 8-10 years ago he didn't have a ring on his finger, now he has 4.
But all players lose their dominance by age 30.
And people who are hating on Shaq's contract with 2 years left for 40 million total, need to realize he took a huge pay cut in that contract.

How in the hell is he going to get up and down the court at that pace?
Or are they just going to let him cherry pick?
Might as well, PHX doesn't play any D anyways.

While it would be a horrendous trade for Phoenix, it almost doesn't matter. Even their current team will be unable to compete with the Lakers if Bynum comes back 100% and all other players stay healthy. Their title hopes have gone the road of Stevie "Swiss Cheese Defense" Nash's MVP hopes.

Marc Stein just reported on ESPN, that this trade IS GOING TO HAPPEN! Ric Bucher said that he is traveling to Phoenix tomorrow to take a physical... I was shocked as well when I first heard about this... This is totally going against what the Suns are all about... However, even though Shaw has not been good the last couple of years, maybe he needs a new start!? Yeah this will slow Phoenix down, but what has their up-tempo pace gotten them the last 3 or 4 years! NOTHING! They might as well try something and I applaud Steve Kerr for giving it a go! With the Lakers getting Gasol, I believe it made them the team to beat in the West, and Kerr must feel like he needs a presence along with Stoudamire to be competitive...

That still means it's a BIG if. What kind of physical can Shaq pass right now?

This trade makes me sick. Let's compare these two players: Marion is unreal, and under-rated. He is a hustle player, and is key to the Sun's entire offense and defense. Marion hustles for rebounds, gets steals and blocks, and a lot of fast break dunks. He is also the other high-flyer that Nash throws alley-oops to other than Amare. Marion is just as key to that team as Amare.
Shaq: Washed up, hasn't produced anything this year. Slow, lack of confidence because he knows he is way out of his prime. How could he possibly fit in with the Suns? The only thing I consider a plus is that Shaq will take some paint fouls away from Amare. Shaq doesn't have the passing vision needed to be on the Suns. The Suns claim they want a defensive guy down low. Marion is your guy. Shaq is not that great of a defender; he is just a 7'1 presence.
And what makes this worse, is that the Suns would also give away another guy, Marcus Banks i beleive. Which says to me, that Shaq is better than Marion, so throw in another guy. If anything, the Suns should be getting another player from Miami. What the Suns should do, is try to put Ricky Davis into this trade. Or get Haslem for down low instead of Shaq. Another guy like this, is Tim Thomas, and Kurt Thomas, who are both solid mid-range shooters, and get it done defensively --> The suns had them, and traded them. Another player they could go after, is Wilcox from Seattle. These guys mean more to the Suns then Shaq ever will. And Marion means more to the Suns then any of the guys listed ever will.
As a Suns fan, this sickens me.

i REALLY don't like the sound of this...i'm a huge lakers fan, but i'm always a sucker for fast tempo games with teams scoring over 105 on average...this trade will kill the image of the suns tremendously...not only is shaq slow as f*ck, he won't be able to breath by halftime with how the suns play...not to mention, even with wade helping him in miama, he didn't get very far this season...CLEARLY he is dieing out and his reign is over...the mans 35, getting injured all over, and is in no shape to be on ANY nba team ATM...i'm praying that this trade doesn't go through...even though the sun's lineup can't take the lakers, they have a better shot WITHOUT shaq and WITH marion...both teams being fast paced, shaq would just cut down the sun's offense by at least 5-10 points per game and maybe increase a rebound or 2 on defense....horrible, horrible mistake if suns make this trade
