    Default Air Plane Cops

I have been doing a lot of driving latley and keep seeing these signs that say the the road is patrolled by airplanes....

Has anyone ever gotten a ticket from an cop that was in an airplane?

How expensive is it to operate this airplane and how many tickets do they have to write to pay for this?

Everytime I see these signs I think to myself yeah right Im sure there is some airplane above timing how fast Im driving....Just wondering if someone has any information as to if they really do this or if it is just a scare tactic?

I never gotten pulled over by one, but my friends dad got pulled over in Maine by a state trooper who said an airplane had him speeding on radar 15 miles back. He was issued a standard speeding ticket. He was bullshit.

I use to see these signs in the Palm Springs area. I always wondered if there was like a little Cessna flying around timing the speeds. There were also white hash marks painted on the side of the road so....you never know. I would think it would be expensive to operate this program also.

Never heard of planes doing that. But when I was in a desolute part of Texas, up around El Paso, and I was "flying" in my car on IH-10, they had helicopters busting you for speeding. I was out in the middle of nowhere. No cops would drive out that far so they send air patrol to bust people.

Wait till you here about the new fad. Some police stations are considering launching satellites into orbit so they can issue more speeding tickets by tracking speedsters from outer space.

That is silly....with all the red light cams and tech we are not going to be able to pee in a parking lot without getting in trouble......I cant see how the satelitte thing will hold up and how it is cost effective....Someone will figure out how to hack those things and make them unreliable.

Never have gotten a ticket from one. Only airplanes I've even seen have been closer to the Rio Grande and I just figured those were border patrol wings looking for illegals.

They definitely use aircraft. They can spot more cars than from the ground. Of course, this is in wide-open areas, such as between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. There are big white marks on the side of the road, and they time how long it takes you to go between the marks.

when i was growing up and we would go to Philly/Levittown to see my dads family, we always went across the Pennsylvania turnpike, my dad always said that he had to make sure he didn't get from one toll booth to the other too fast or they report you and the cops that sit at each booth will give you a ticket. i don't know if that was true or not, but my dad believed it.

to bad those tickets they issue are against the law.their is a loophole if you can find it.
their also is such thing as my car had a mechanical issue,or i want proof that the equip they use is being maintained properly stamp sealed, and everything as required by law

My Dad got a ticket one time. The patrol cars pull you over but the plane clocks you. I have also seen them before. The signs may be a scare tactic but they do indeed exist.

Thanks for the info I always just laughed....I always know if the weather is bad there is no chance they are flying so going fast is what I proceed to do.....only problem is the cops on the ground can still get me.

You need to get a faster ride. For some reason they have a hard time catching up with my Lamborghini.

when i was taking flying lessons, there was a cop there. i think he become one of those airplane cops. not a smart guy...but smart enough to draw a straight line on the flight plan.

Isn't that the trick with all loopholes, finding them?

Here's an idea: Don't drive more than maybe five MPH over the posted limit and avoid attracting attention in the first place.

I did get a ticket from an airplane cop about 20 years ago in the police STATE of Florida. The plane shot me with the radar, and some other cop sleeping in his car pulled me over about 10 miles later. The road is called aligator alley, and crosses florida from Miami to the west coast. It is so straight that you could probably tie a rope to the steering wheel and take a nap on the way over the 75 or so miles.

same thing happened to me as ragewizard, but i got mine while working in California. worked for a dry cleaner in sacramento while i was in college and drove the bay area run starting at about 5 pm. got caught one night on my way back to sac. and a cop pulled me over further down the line. the company i worked for had monthly driving awards of 100, 50 , and 20 dollars. it was not a coincidence that i won the 100 dollar award that month..
