Georgia Tech beat Cumberland (TN) 222-0 on October 7, 1916.

    32 touchdowns were scored.

Neither team managed a 1st down.

Georgia Tech scored 222 unanswered points despite never attempting a passing play.

The reason for Georgia running up the score was apparently the following:
    Quote:
Tech coach John Heisman was in no mood to accommodate the Bulldogs, perhaps because Tech's baseball team had lost 22–0 to Cumberland the previous year amidst allegations of Cumberland using professionals as ringers. The fact that Cumberland had crushed Georgia Tech earlier that year probably accounted for Heisman's running up the score on the Bulldogs. He insisted on the schools' scheduling agreement, which required Cumberland to pay $3,000 (a lot of money in 1916) to Tech if its football team failed to show.

with the most important part being the no first down thing, in other words Cumberland made no defensive tackles all game.

it was ranked #1 blow out in college fb history by an espn article...in the llight of the stanford win at usc.

according to the espn article, that use unsportsman like to run up score like that. the other team didn't even want to play the game...they put together a rag tag team of frat brothers at the end

the whole game actually, they disbanded their football team but were on GT's schedule and Tech forced them to play the game kind of. The score was not run up, but they had no business playing this game
