Default Better to lose by a half or get blown out?

any preference? losing by a half you're left making excuses for what could have happened. blow outs mean you capped poorly, but you're over it more quickly. obviously a loss is a loss, but some people react differently to different kinds of losses. emotionally its easier to take a blow out, but id prefer to lose a close one.

I prefer the win, but a lose is a lose. To me it makes no difference.

I honestly prefer getting blown out. It seems every game I'm 1 to 4 points away from covering, and it really pisses me off. 3-3 1/2 hrs to watch a bs ending. At least when I'm down 20-30 at the half, I watch the first 4 or 5 min of the 3Q, and if nothing changes, I'll turn the TV off and have a cpl beers, or go for a drive for a little bit.

That's exactly what gets me going man! At least 3 times this week I've watched guys on teams that I've picked miss wide open easy shots that were critical, and FTs, in the last 5 min of the games. To me, there's no excuse to miss a FT when it's such a basic part of the game, and you're getting paid millions. I could go 17/20 on FTs, and I'm not even in good shape anymore! It makes you want to take a baseball bat, and knock the TV into next Tuesday.

I don't care for the random result of a loss by a hook. Thinkin you were on the right side and losing is a gut buster and raises my blood pressure. Blow me away

Give me the blowout any time. At least you know it was a loss. I always feel like I got screwed when my teams blow a lead and that puts me on tilt easier. I can get over the blowouts in no time.

Blown out for sure, even tho when you lose by 1/2 or so, you get the satisfaction of knowing that you did a fairly OK job of capping the game. With the blowout I just write it off as one of those things.
I was tempted (but never did) to start a thread asking who keeps track of close wins & losses. I do. In foots it is 1/2 pt to 2.5 pts + OT. Baskets is is 2 pts or less plus OT. (So far in baskets this season, I am 20-10 in the tight ones. About a +13 unit swing). I don't do it for bases, too many 1 run games. Could do it for extra innings tho, but I don't see the point of that.
It is most interesting to see how this comes out at the end of the season. Most always, this stat goes hand in hand with a winning or losing season.

Something that has worked for me in cutting down these close losses is to determine the best line that was offered on a team I am betting since the line opened at all the major books and buy enough points to get that line. This has turned so many losers into winners, and anytime I get lazy and dont do this I pay for it.

Blowout obviously, It's better to feel the losing effects of it sooner rather than later!

A loss is a loss.

But, having the nets (pk) just now who lost after being up 15 in the 4th and 7 with 1:20 left only to get outscored 10-0 to end the game, really sucks.

Tough beat, durito. Nets are the worst team in hoops right now. They're not even trying any more.

close loses are better because they predict future success more than being on the wrong side of a blowout. Sure a blowout is less stress but I want future success

if i'm watching the game i prefer to lose by a half point...i love to sweat out games. if i'm only checking the score online and i have a loser i'd prefer a blowout.

I think those of you who prefer to know that you capped the game correctly are greatly overestimating the significance of one game's outcome, be it lopsided or not.

Blowout, obviously, is the correct answer, unless you are a masochist.

mofome,

I didn't read any of the posts, but I'd say 90% of the excitement is sweating the bets. Also 100% of the undue stress in my life.

You can't sweat a blowout.

i think some people deal with that stress/excitement in different ways. personally, some days i can just watch and be fine, other days im yelling at the fucking tv and throwing remotes. usually, i'll just check online and keep my tv off if ive got money on the game. if i find myself checking too frequently, i'll shit the pc down so i cant look again until its back on.

Yeah, I'm a degen about that too. I still feel like throwing up after sucking out the Clippers 2H over. Though usually I don't really mind it too much. The worst are sweating games not on TV and on a time delay on espn.com So ridiculous.

Regardless, its just something else to waste my time on.

i hate losing by a half a point because i only have a couple of books and i know that i could have found that half a point somewhere........................this especially hurts this last year without pinny, because i was often able to get that half point at nice odds

I'd rather get blown out. I feel like I can learn more from that kind of loss, from a handicapping perspective. If I lose by a half point, I'm just left scratching my head.
