What a vast wasteland Hollywood is. Worked there in my 20s for a while, as an extra. One character actor I knew - dedicated movie deadheads wouldn't know his name, but would recognize his face, he was in many, many B movies - once said to me, "Hope American moms keep burping out morons. I need to keep working."

Hollywood has really been a garbage factory. Same old same old. Car chases and bedroom scenes, that's been thier speed for years. They need writers for that tired crap? Get computers to do it.

And the Oscars! Pray to the Gods that the US IQ wll be raised a point and this stupid show is wiped out.

Here's an industry that prides itself on "entertainment," and their one event when much of the world watches, all they come up with is - what, four, five hours? of human automatons parroting "I want to thank . . . I want to thank ... I want to thank ....."

And it's amusing to see the average dumbed-down American male drooling over some actress or other. Gals with, more often than not, a ton of cosmetic surgery, and sporting more plastic than a Chinese toy or tool factory.

There are likely sexier and better-looking women a block or two from the homes of these dimwits, but such is the power of publictiy, of hype, that they have wet dreams about some pig who humped a producer after getting the $10 grand Silicone Special.

Sports fans - at least sports bettors - have more brains and taste than movie fans. May not always show on boards like this, but here at least you find posters often critical of players, very seldom in awe of, or worshipful of, the athletes.

I have to wonder what goes on in the brains of diehard movie buffs, watching those stupid celebrity shows, buying the magainzes, sittling for hours in the dark to watch some bogus "blockbuster."

I knew this thoroughbred trainer - now departed for the great moviehouse in the sky - who would go to the movies 2-3 times a week. And watch some on TV at other times.

Very nice guy and good friend, but must have had an IQ of around 80. Never read a book in his life, but did read the sports pages of the local rag. At least the first sentence of the lead.
