Default Work at a track mucking stalls and get inside information.

Uproot yourself and move to wherever a half ass thriving track is located and start out as a groom or hotwalker doing shit work for a trainer.Long hours and not easy work and there are allot of ex cons and illegals floating around the barn area that you have to cover your backside from. It's sort of like Shawshank Redemption.hehe!

The good thing would be is that if you have clean legal and criminal records and can speak English you are higher in the hiring pecking order.

The positives are, there are allot of women exercize riders and jockeys that have great asses you can look at all day. With a little luck, you can get hitched to a lady jockey and she can make all the $$$$$$ and wear the pants in the family and you can just go around collecting inside information and winning money on betting. You can probably make a few bucks on the side selling fake ID's to illegals and selling bootleg cigarettes you can buy for $10 a carton on the internet so the whole backside of the race track burns down.

15 years...damn i can't blame you buddy, professional horse player sounds like a sweet job.

well, you don't have to quit completely...just remember only bet with what you can afford to lose and try to build up a bankroll again.

having a small bankroll is like walking around with dick tucked between your legs, but you get a sense of accomplishment the day you have a big bankroll and realize all this is your winnings.

    Default Try screenprinting.

Wow,deja vu all over again. When I used to work for a screen printer we had a screenprinter that was heavily into the ponies that went cold turkey on betting after many years of not working a 9-5.

When you have too much month at the end of the money people always start that nonsense talk about getting a real job.

The same place where I worked in screen printing had a lunch wagon come around and the couple guys that ran it were really black marketeers that sold or gave away sandwhiches as a front. They sold everything from parlay cards to fireworks. It was sort of a chain franchise deal where the company actually knew the guys were doing this but they fell under the independent contractor dealie. Finally the IRS caught on and went after them for running the black market schemes.

All the good and fun jobs that gamblers are good at have been phased out and made illegal over the years.Rats!!!!!

Hell, why not just meet some single broad with no kids, discipline yourselves and work in Vegas where between the two of you,you should pull in decent bucks even in a recession.

My experience has been the fastest way to get some paycheck rolling in was to apply at numerous temporary job offices. They were able at times to get me working within one day. Granted the pay wasn't that great' but its a way to get out there. It could lead to something long term. I started as a temp for one company and ended up getting hired and stayed there eight years. Make sure not to pay any fees, use the ones that have the employers pay.
G.L. with whatever path you decide to take.

Thanks guys for the positive post..Its really not about gambling..Its about a guy next to 50 year old broke and need to start working again after 15 years of doing nothing..Sure i can work but who wants a wash up gambler? At 50 there are not to many doors open for someone with a empty working back ground..any idea what kind of work to be looking for?

    Thanks again

Never bet on horses, dogs a few times. Seems like a lot of down time between races and that it doesn't really pay much unless the favs lose. Doesn't the track also take like 20%?

Betting on horses is brutal, and I greatly respect anyone who has tried to do that for a living. I love the handicapping aspect, but of course I am way down in my 20-plus years playing the horses. Key is to keep the losses manageable.

Thing is, I love the sport so much, I don't get mad when losing, yet am pissed off when losing a sporting event for way less than I lose at the track. I also do better on sports.

I play horses just about every day in from late July and all of August for Saratoga, and usually win at that meeting. But afterwards, I'm so drained it's something awful. Doing it for 11 more months is impossible.

Well sir if you do something right for 15 yrs and still go broke then 1st thing you need to look back is your BR management. You have skill for those but you'll have to start over again now.
1 thing you need to remember is don't over spend when you up. Don't chase when you are down. Get a job save up some $ then start to build up your BR again.

Move to latin america, host around gringos that go down for sex tourism. The living is cheap and the life sleazy like you are use to but you wil always have demand. Forget about earning minimum wage in the US, a few minutes in the airport of any latin american city and you'll find the perverts in droves. Only street experience necessary.

At the risk of oversimplifying things, I'd say there are two general ways of making money legally in this world. The first is to provide some kind of product or service (also I'll include entertainment as a service) that others need or want and are willing to pay for. Whether computer programmer, or waitress, or plumber, or line manager, or CEO of a company (good gig if you're qualfied!), or a rock star (another good one. Tuba player for an orchestra more realistic), it boils down to providing people with a product or service they want or need.

The other general way to make money is speculation. You see some kind of asset, believe it's undervalued, and you purchase it with the hopes of selling it later at a profit. Whether it's real estate, or treasury bonds, or baseball cards, or an undervalued horse in the 3rd race at Santa Anita.

Seems to me, you are clearly a guy who is attracted to the second kind of way to make money. You just happen to be attracted to a way where you are fighting a 20-25% vig.

I think if you're serious about heading to the work world, you will probably be unhappy in the product/service world. Maybe you're an ebay kind of guy who can spot undervalued stuff at garage sales or flea markets and can sell them on ebay. But I think you'de be happier working in a more speculative field, just try something without such a huge vig.

If not, I guess you can always drive a cab.

The real world is going to be boring for you compared to the action you had. I think you can make adjustment though but I hope you still bet recreationally just to keep juices flowing,

Horse, what happened after 15 year, just a long run of losses? How long did the road downwards last, have you been loosing for like a year or a month? Didnt make any 'golden reserves' in your good years?

In Oklahoma they are putting up Casinos left and right. You could probably email a few of them and get a job as a dealer, floor worker
or even in the cage if you have a clean background and If there are any putting in a OTB that would be right up your alley.

GL my man, everything will work its self out. . . I bet on the horses almost everyday throughout the saratoga meet, also i bet derby day, preakness, belmont, breeders cup, and then I'd say maybe 5 days scattered throughout the year. Just for fun because i love to handicapp the sport and I can go to the track and lose and still have a great time. Although I do find success at the saratoga meet for those 6 weeks. . .

Would love to talk to you about your stragedy attacking the track on a daily basis. . . Seems like an impossible sport to win day in and day out.

The last time my dad was in Wendover,Nevada on a gambling junket to the 5 casinos there that aren't too shabby,he brought back a newspaper with job listings. They were looking for cab drivers and only paid about $10 but then you figure you make allot of money in tips and the cost of livingt here is low.

Wendover is a growing town right on the interstate about 2 hours west of Salt Lake City.It has a small town atmosphere with no real crime etc.If you have seen allot of movies like America's fastest Indian and tons of commercials featuring the Bonneville Salt Flats, that's where it is.

I would say for a guy of 50 at a dead end, something like that would be great and it would be fun and not in any way difficult. If you could find a single never married gal or one who already has her kids raised and is single, you might make a pretty decent life for yourself with some deal like this.

If we have a depression which many think we will have, there will be stock brokers in debt wishing they were in your shoes.Believe me when I say that there are allot of people that you envy because you think they are doing so well who are right on the brink of being doomed.

thanks guys once again nice post.. For me winning at the track was mainly playing pick three wagering..I think its the best wager Race tracks offfer..What killed me was really the lack of being a bonus whore, and gambling on games..In Neteller hay day i had 5 names and did very well like mainly being a whore..The lack of being a whore and gambling like a chump cost me dearly..Oh winning on the poinies can't pay your bills monthly..being a whore did

So you were at least still winning?
Though do you think it has become harder over the years?
Or would you have always needed the bonusses?

It is funny, but I know a few more of your age that had their life long income from gambling (some bookies) and are now stuck. In many cases they simply did not realise that things have become more competitive, so would have to drop their spending.

Do you think anyone is gonna hire us? There are 400 to 500 damn good horseplayers making 100,000 a year profit. They don't tell anyone their methods. I don't ever want to work as a temp again. I'm getting 50 percent winners at 7.oo avg. on the Churchhill Circuit. In the long run I will get to 50 percent.I've lasted 6 months at 50 percent winners. If you made a living for 15 years.Don't give up.Change your methods.Change circuits. You can find a way.You do have to know when to hold em and fold em. I will not bet if my horse goes below 5-2.I'll pull the bet.You have to have discipline.Buy Dick Mitchell's books and read.I read em all.Don't give up.Forget Andy Beyers conclusions. He said wait for the big score.Nonsense.No wonder Beyer still keeps his day job.Hang in there. And Remember if you make 3 thousand a month ,it's better then making 1000 dollars a month as a temp working with parolees.Don't give up.
