I found the idea of open parlays pretty interesting. you can select a 3 team parlay, select one team and leave other two slots open for later bets.

Anyone out there do open parlays? If so, which sportsbook do you use? I called up couple of different sportsbooks and each one of them has different rules for open parlays. So far, I think the greek's open parlay rules are the best. (they let you do up to 15 open slots with 2 weeks to fill them out)

I don't see the point of this, especially for the book. No need to leave open slots you can just take the winnings and bet them on a single or a parlay. I guess the only use would be to circumvent limits. Get three straight winners on a $1000 parlay, and then get 6 dimes down on a WNBA 2nd half or something like that.

think you're right about this. i can't think of any advantage of using open parlays vs regular parlays. the only thing i can think of if you think patriots is going to cover the next 3 games straight and you want to do a parlay on that.

Another reason a player that bets open parlays might like it, Is you can use a play that you really like and maybe bet 3 open parlays keying your best bet that day.

Strategies using them?

Two situations when parlays make sense.

1. Correlated. With the exception of sportsbook.com, any book that takes these pays them.
2. Volume. If a book is only taking nickels on a small, easy to beat market, try mixing it in with parlays. A nickel in a parlay (or 10 nickels in parlays) often don't move the line, when a straight bet would. A minor warning though - books dislike this, and will take countermeasures against you, although they should honor the bets.

I don't think parlays are a good bet otherwise. Why wouldn't you just bet a straight bet, and keep doubling? Because you're betting too much on the last leg, which is a problem with parlays.

The point that you can just roll over your bets is not practical... A poster last year hit a 9 team parlay risking something like $300 to win over 100K... There is NOT ONE poster here NOT ONE that would roll it over all the way through and put 50K on the last game...

This is the problem with debating numbers... It adds up on paper but it's not always practical... Scared money doesn't win and parlays are a way of reducing the fear a bit...

I don't see how the book would win this type of dispute, unless there were very unusual circumstances.
