Default Anyone ever bet against their own team?

It has to be the surest lock of all to root against your own team

I have never bet against a team i really cared about, The Knicks are a joke so i usually fade them, even though i am a fan

I would say that the last 3 years i have never bet against the Gmen

If i dont like the play for the Gmen, its a no play

Though i am a huge huge Giants fan, after seeing how bad our secondary looked against Dallas (dont look at stats, Owens was open on that 3rd down and Crayton dropped ball) I feel Favre will have a field day vs us, just cant wager against my team in an NFC champoinship game

You shouldn't be betting on sports if you're not willing to bet against your favorite team. Personal allegiances have no place in sports gambling.

To answer the question - of course.

I've grown up favoring some teams, but I'll bet against them in a heartbeat if I think it's the right play. If you think GB is the play, bet them.

Listen, you dont have to bet on the game if you feel your team will lose, BUT it really takes being a fan out of sports if every team is fair game to wager on

The thing is i cant root against my Giants after seeing the rise from the dead in the last month

Crazy, if you were a lifelong Cubs fan and were positive the were gonna lose game 7 of a WS game they were in, would you actually bet against them?

I would bet on my favorite team if I felt the wager was right.

I mean yes you have your support and love for a team, but when it comes to making money and having that cash flow, you have a whole other side to consider.

    So yeah I would

I am a huge South Carolina fan. I bet against them vs. Vanderbilt-9 the other day. Needless to say, Vandy won by 8! I lost both ways. If SC would have won I would have felt a little better. But considering we lost the game and I lost the bet by 1 pt I was feeling about as dumb as possible. The sad thing is if they played tomorrow I would do the same thing again.

    Yes.

It is a nice feeling when teams you root for win, but it is an even nicer feeling to cash in a wager. If a team I follow loses, the rest of my day isn't ruined. I'd be more shaken if a large bet loses, because my own success is more important to me than any teams. Even if I grew up watching them.

Don't get me wrong, I'll go see them play, do that kind of stuff on occasion, but I am not emotionally tied in to a team to where I cannot bet against them.

I bet against Louisville this year when they went to South Florida, because we always get steamrolled in South Florida... think the line was USF -7, and we lost by 38

Dont really like betting against Louisville, tho I have a few times in basketball this year...

As for the other sports I dont really care, I'll bet against them if its the smart play

Exactly. If the right play is to fade your team, then fade them. It's a win win situation. If they lose your right, and if they win, your happy they won. Your going to lose some of your plays anyways it may as well be that one

I hammered Jacksonville against the Pats. I am a huge Patriots fan..

Don't get me wrong, just the spread.( still wanted Pats to win, just not cover)

    Does that count?

Always bet with the head, not the heart....

Not really, i mean i have in the past done that when my team was a big fav, BUT if you were a Jags fan and pounded the Pats -13 than that would be like betting against your own team

    just team green

i find adult fanatic fans of teams to be extremely amusing and idiots
especially the idiots that paint their faces etc
or sit in the stands in cleveland or buffalo with no shirts

As a die-hard Bruin fan, the Steve Lavin era was the most pain I will ever experience....but boy oh boy did that ****er make me money.

Could somebody PLEASE bring him back out of the booth, so I can make some more without it poisoning my team?

You gotta be kidding me, I bet against my favorite team all the time. If they are your favorite team, you probably know more about them than any other team. Sometimes you just know how they are against other teams. For instance my favorite team is the Miami Dolphins (I know they suck and deserve to be bet against.) This year they were actually favored against the Jets when they were at home. Miami hasn't beat the Jets against the spread since 2003. (look it up they tied earlier this year but no win). Being a fan of the Deadfins, I know that loading up on the Jets in week 13 of the football season this year was the play. I must admit though that I didn't play that play and I was kicking myself all week because I knew that the Deadfins would lose but didn't pull the trigger on the play.

Betting against your own team is a win win situation. Whatever happens to the outcome of the game you will walk away with one win. Your team may win and you lose some money. Or you win some money and your team loses.

First of all My team is louisville. Them winning is more important than money, yes I am a die hard fan. I have bet against them a few times when they were giving a ridic amount of points that I didn't think they would cover but could still win the game straight up and i also could win my bet.

If i feel I'm favoring, good or bad, a team, I will look away from that bet. I bet against my team all the time; why you might ask, because it is my team, and I should know more about them then any other team, and 'my' team making me money will only make me like them more

You should know your home team better then most it is a great tool to have. Just need to know when to bet against them dont let your heart play in to the handicapping part

I play to make money, don't give a damn if it's one of my alma maters or the pro team nearest to where I grew up. Being a fan, albeit noble in intentions, is a rather fruitless venture in my eyes....
