ok i need some advice i just got a kidney stone that hurts like hell. The doctor told me he could go in a remove it which sounds painful in its own or i could just try to pass it. its 4.5 mm so its quite big. Anyone had one of these and or had the surgery? How painful is it to remove?
    thanks

You know how those come out, right? Eek.

A friend had to get his removed a couple years ago, I don't remember much other than him laughing because he said some of his family members saw him laying naked on either the hospital bed or operating table, I don't really remember the details.

Just picked this off the web:
FEW AILMENTS ARE as painful as kidney stones. The pain is caused by the passing of the stone as it blocks the flow of urine and causes stretching of the ureters and the kidney pelvis. The kidney pelvis is like a funnel that directs urine into the ureters, the tubes that lead to the bladder. Typically, the pain of a kidney stone starts at the flank, and then moves to the front and down toward the groin. It may take weeks or even months for a stone to pass, with the pain coming in intense periodic waves. Many stones pass by themselves. When there are complications or the pain is too intense, a nonsurgical procedure, like ultrasound, which shatters the stones, can be used.
Ultrasound has a nice ring to it. GL.

I use to have them all the time until I found out what caused mine. I now take medication that prevents them. All the one's I passed seemed to have broke up and did not hurt when passed. The most pain was before passing them when they were causing blockage and other things. Hurts like hell in a few places.

I did have a rather large one that I had removed. They put me too sleep and extracted it with no problem. you have a little soreness for a few days is all.

ughhh I ****in hate these things. I have had 2 of them. The worst part is, once you get 1 you are 50% more likely to get another 1... I passed mine both times thru the ultrasound like procedure that crushed the stone and then I pissed it out. God damn I hope I never get one of those again

Ultrasound only works on certain types and depending where the stone is also. I have never had any luck in qualifying for that procedure.

If it is that size--you definitely want them to blast it first and give you a chance to pass it. Dude, you do not want them to use the "basket" to go and get it. I am hurting now just telling you this. While you are trying to pass it--do not let them give you morphine. You will have dreams of fat girls doing unspeakable things to you. Settle for the oxycontin.

    Good luck.

I have passed 8 stones in my life. I have had kidney problems my whole life. When they pass I always start to sweat and get real weak. I will tell you this much once it passes and you know the feeling it makes it easier because you kind of know what to expect. It is very uncomfortable but not very painful.

Cranberry juice is good also. If you can find out what can of stone you have sometimes meds can prevent them from coming back. Took me 5 years to get the right pill to take and I have been clean for over 4 years.

Oh man I feel for you, I wish you luck with this. I've never had one (KNOCK ON WOOD) but I've seen people have them, it looks awful.

Good luck to you, hope you get through it ok.

Ive had 2, passed both of them, but the biggest I had was 2mm. It didnt hurt when I finally peeed them out. What killed me was getting them from the Kidney to the bladder. That could take days, and id feel miserable the whole time.

Damn, Id get sweaty and dizzy and start puking, and this would go on for hours till it finally made its way down from the kidney to the bladder.

Both times when I actually peeed them out there was no pain. It would be like oh sh!t, I just passed the damn thing.

Ive had that where they run the scope up your thing, into your bladder and it didnt hurt to much, more of a discomfort then pain. If it was me, id let them go in and grab it and get it over with, JMO.

good to know other people have these as well. Thanks for the advice. When this hit me at 3:30 in the morning sat I thought i would die. This was the worse pain i have ever felt. The pain isnt has bad now but i am on oxycodone. I tried this drinking olive oil and lemon juice and uhh no that didnt work. I understand about the vomiting because that happened to me. Mine is stuck in the tube from kidney to bladder. they told me i wouldnt feel it once it got to bladder, but shit this hurts. i am going try to go a week and stay doped up and see if i can pass it naturaly and if not opt for the surgery. the urologist told me he has one patient that he has been watching for a year but since hes not in pain it didnt matter. Dont think i could wait that long. Thanks again for the info guys

Man, my stomach is uneasy reading all this. That's gotta be terrible. Hopefully the removal goes as smoothly as possible.

ok still havent passed this thing and have opted to have the go in and remove it basket surgery. Thing is they can't do this crap until Monday. can someone please tell me if this surgery is quick and if i feel instant relief afterwards? I have already missed a weeks work and taking oxycodone every 4 hours makes me feel like a feen. I am also getting tired of watching the shit that comes on tv during the day like the view or the same first take over and over. i just hope i get pissed off this weekend and the games and pass it, i wanted this to be over by this weekends playoff games cause its hard to watch when you are drugged.

Takes like 15 minutes and you are put to sleep. Little discomfort after but nothing like what you feel now. I had a lot of bleeding after mine.

Drink a can of Coke. Someone stated on a previous thread that if you pour Coke over a razor, the razor dissolves overnight. However, if the same experiment is performed with Pepsi it fails. I’m sure a can of Coke will obliterate your kidney stones.
