    Default Would glavine/maddux be as successful if they spent their careers in the AL?

    both going to the HOF regardless? numbers about the same? maddux yes, glavine no?

    Absolutely in the 90's I would say the NL was just as good as the AL besides the fact that there is a DH but still both of these guys would be hall of famers whether they pitched in the NL or AL. Especially Maddux. I think with the Clemens steroid use that makes Maddux the best pitcher of his generation. The guy got it done year in and year out without the 95 mph fastball. He was the smartest pitcher I have ever seen as far as knowing hitters weaknesses and what to throw. And hes the best fielding pitcher of his generation also, he gets gold gloves every single year... and on top of it all hes a decent hitter for a pitcher!

    I guess it depends on what you mean by successful. Their ERA's would have been higher and their strikeout totals would have been lower just by virtue of pitching in the American League with the DH.

    If by "successful" you mean how many games they each won... the short answer is it depends on what kind of teams they were on.

    If they were on the NY Yankees of the 90's, then yes. If they were on the Tampa Devil Rays, then the answer is no.

    i think they would of held their own, both put up good numbers against AL teams in the 90's when they were with the Braves, they just didn't get those rings(well except for the one against Cle. in a strike season) against AL teams, because they never had(and still don't) quality closers. ATL has always been good at developing young position players and having a quality starting rotation, but set-up guys and closers have been their weakness.
