I'd say great athlete, crappy person.
The media spends more time publicizing the players who have crappy personalities and aren't upstanding citizens anyway, and if they're great players they cover them even more. Guys who donate to charity lots or really have good hearts are covered but aren't the headliners like the more flamboyant athletes are.
When you have a great player on your team, assuming it's not someone on your offensive line, that has to help fan interest and ticket sales. I think owners would prefer less controversial, more squeaky-clean players off the field, but I think so long as the player isn't killing dogs or beating his wife you'd prefer the greater player to give your team the best chance at a championship.
I'd have to go with good people. Same with any occupation. Otherwise we get the Knicks and old Trailblazers.
