In poker, there's just no substitute for experience.
For an absolute beginner, whoring bonuses is the first step. Check out http://www.bonuswhores.com/
But, even whoring bonuses takes a committment of time, and at least a little bit of skill, mostly in picking soft tables, knowing your limits, and not going on tilt.

If you're a novice, learn the strategy for the game. When you know how to play, then you need to learn how to play with others and learn things like the art of the bluff. Watching tournaments on TV give good insights into this. Also the freerolls are a pretty good way to get to grips with the game and give you experience of playing in public and no cost. When you've got to grips with that, then that's the time to stick your money in, grab a bonus and give it a try.

Good heads up, BBD. I was wondering when they'd be up. I checked it last week, and it said check back in February. Are they going to have a forum? It would be good to get all of this poker talk out of the main forum here at SBR.Originally Posted by bigboydan

I know some bonuses can take forever. What I usually do is open 3 or 4 tables at a time, but I wouldn't recommend that for beginners.

Yeah, those games are pretty soft lately, with all of the "paradise millions" ads on the radio during the last 6 months.Originally Posted by imgv94
You should have a free entry into the "paradise millions" freeroll tourney. I played mine last night but got busted after about 25 hands when I pushed my JJ against QQ preflop. UGH! lmao

If you're just trying to clear bonuses playing on short handed tables clear them alot faster & on most sites playing higher limits clears them alot faster too.

my advice is not to play at all...

I play with Sportsbook.com but have never tried their big freeroll. Is their a certain thing one has to do to get an invite or get registered?
SBR Founder Join Date: 8/10/2005
The paradise freeroll should automatically be available for anyone registered with Paradise Poker. Just go to tournaments and select freerolls. I think there are 3 freerolls per day. But remember, it's just a qualifier. I think there are a million freeroll tickets at this level, so the overlay value of this freeroll invite is only $1 anyway.Originally Posted by lakerfan
I've gotta agree with pags here. Unless you really enjoy playing poker, it's really hard to justify all of the hard work that goes into being a winning player. For me, I just don't enjoy playing poker to that degree. Maybe I'll indulge in an occasional freeroll online, or an occasional Friday night home game.pags11: my advice is not to play at all...

The amount of skill and time required to earn $8 an hour playing poker online does not even come close to justifying the effort.Originally Posted by slacker00

That's your opinion. To me having given the effort to learn to play poker was one of the wisest things I ever did. Feels good to know you can always fall back on to your poker skills to earn. Doesn't mean you have to always put in the hours, I take long breaks from poker at times, just means you got another weapon in the arsenal ready and raring to go.Originally Posted by isetcap
I do agree with you though, if you don't like the game and are going to be miserable then it won't be worth it to you. I love cards, we started playing hearts, spades, bridge, poker and pinochle before we were old enough to ride bikes. I can't imagine a life without cards, doesn't mean everyone will like it though.

Poker's a game of skill just like chess and bridge and when you put in the time and effort to become good at it you can reap the benefits (ie winning money). However, it's a hard way to make an easy living. The swings in the game are huge and when you run bad it can become pretty stressful especially when its your main source of income. It's definitely not for everyone.

Playing poker online is the best thing that has happened to some, and others, well it hasn’t worked out just yet.
The single most important recommendation is to sharpen your game; the fun play option or low stakes would be a good place to start. It is advisable to keep good notes on the different sites you play and other players that you have played with.
Playing a tight game of poker will make you money at any poker game, online or offline.
We will be launching our site in Feb and will have a complete section with reviews and a rating guide of 300+ sites.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at Admin@PokerRoomReview.com.
Thank you & Good Luck!!
