I would tend to agree he should be one, however if he doesn't win an NBA championship. I do have to question if he will be a first ballot HOF'er though.

Thus teaching tomorrow's youth the important lesson that it's not the quality of the shot, it's the quantity that matters.

    1st ballot?

There should be no ballot, he is the greatest guard ever to play the game minus Mike Jordan

Best 6ft guard ever...no one even close second

I thought Denver would be more dominant when Allen arrived. In fact they seem slightly better than average. Let me see Iverson get somewhere in the playoffs....just once this decade. The guy hasn't even sniffed a title, not even a wiff, hasn't gotten close enough.

Louiville.....I'll give you that, but it was a while ago. Hasn't been able to do it on his own again. Lets be honest, he didn't really have a shot in hell to bring home the bacon in the finals. One playoff run doesn't constitute first ballot hall of fame vote. Just my 2 cents man.

You're a fool if you really think that and you don't understand the game, the guy is a loser and a horrible defender. He plays the game the wrong way, don't get me wrong he has talent but he is a loser.

and i don't want to hear everyone telling me he is a good defender because of all the steals he gets because that is nothing but Bullshiit. Most of the time he goes for the steal, does not get it and leaves his team in a 5v4 dis advantage. He gambles too much on defense. On top of that the guy is only 6 ft tall, to be a #2 guard int he NBA you have to be at least be 6'4 and have some thickness to you. He can't play the point guard position so now that leaves your team in another bad matchup because you have to play a real point guard and will most likely leave both players in you backcourt under 6'2. OVERRATED!!!

    LK,

Let me preface this by saying I'm not a big AI guy. I'm just not. And I freely admit that colors my perception of AI. I'm a lot more of a Tim Duncan guy than I am an AI guy.

    I'm sorry...I just don't see it.

I'll give him this: He plays his ass off every night (which is a helluva lot more than you can say about a lot of guys in the NBA) and for that I give him props. But ML Carr played his ass off too and I don't have him as one of the all time greats.

AI is a scorer. Pure and simple. He has to have the ball in his hands most of the time. He takes a ton of shots. He shoots a low percentage. And I don't think anyone has ever accused AI of "making those around him better". And while he did play for an NBA title, the Sixers got routed in that series. And yeah, there was that "Practice? We talking about practice??" diatribe which didn't sound like an all time NBA great to me.

    So, what am I missing?

I hear alot about this topic . . . Im referring too when people talk about hall of fame it seems to always directly move to playoff success. But when the fact remains some players just never get into a chance to really win the title in their respective sport. Now if this were tennis or golf i would completely agree , but in team sports so many things have to click to have a championship season. Every player on the team has to make a contribution and coaching has to be great, also the team has to stay healthy and motivated throughtout the hole season and post season. However anybody knowlegdable about sports can still see the quality of a player day in and day out. JJ hit this right on, AI is the toughest player in the league, and brings it every night! . . . Also Denver is a fun team to watch but still they arent good enough to survive the west yet, and well the 76ers we know how bad they were. I mean the amount of wins complied by AI were very impressive with those role players.

    Bottom line AI =

your judging him as a person, and not as a player. . . People always want to judge somebody because of what they seen on the media. . . never understood this, shake a man's hand and get to know them, then make a judgement. . .

Go back to school and learn how to read Lousiville because you can't comprehend. I did not mean loser like a thug I meant like loser as in he plays on teams that lose. I gave plenty of arguement in that he plays the game the wrong way and you can't win that way. He does not play defense the right way, he does not pass enough, he is too ball controlling, does not make people around him better, is a liablity with his size, not a high percentage shooter, and he's a thug!!!!!! Don't try to make a case when you only read one sentence of the 2 paragraphs I wrote cuz.

your just closed minded on the topic, because you can't be objective in this arguement, since you clearly don't like AI personally.

I am not saying he should not be in the hall of fame, jj is right stats get you in the hall of fame. However as far as someone who should be admired as a basketball player Iverson is not that player at all. You can't win with the guy.

Pointing out that he scores his points by taking a LOT of shots, and that he shoots a LOW percentage, and has never been accused of making those around him better is NOT judging him as a person. It's judging him as a player.

I'm not a Kobe guy either, but he's a LOT closer to being a HOF'er than AI, IMO.
