I hit the pick six at aqueduct today
i hit it today on races 4-9 and it paid 27k and change.. (i put this on the horse board as well but its not very active) im not complaining but i guess i really am... 27k is nice but i bet picks 6 alot so its not as great as you might think.
based on the sequence do you think i got screwed??
seems like a big underlay.. here are a couple of facts about those races
1. not one favorite
2. lowest price 7 bucks
3. highest price 27 bucks
4.two 8-1ML and one 10-1 ml
5. 161,000 carryover
i think i got hosed

Mavs:
That seems like a TOTAL HOSE JOB
Those who don't know racing will say...Be happy; it's $27k, but they don't get it...Normally a pk 6 with prices like that will be in the $100,000 range or better.
Did you beat any HEAVY favorite? (3/5 or less)? Beating those will make a pk 6 SKY ROCKET as everyone will often use them as singles on large tickets.
It may be some jag had it multiple times. When I was huge into betting races, I once had a superfecta that I thought would be the whole pool (in greyhound racing) for about $10k. Pay comes up and there are 6 God Damn winners (It was bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb)...Later I find out some jag had a fricking $5 STRAIGHT ticket, that was a random number punch..
No joke

It would be 6 winners. There was probably one horse who "should" have been favoured that the sharps were on that killed the pool. Unfortunate yes, but that's the breaks in pari mutuel wagering.
I"ve found some horses hammered in the win pool and extreme overlays in the Tri and superfecta pools. That's were the money is.

i beat a 6-5 and a 7-5 today i believe .. but nothing really chalky..
i knew it was trouble when the picks 4 paid 1800 for 2

Wow, I just looked up the prices and a $2 six-horse parlay would have paid over $51,000!
Definitely a light payoff.

It sounds short mavs, but nothing you can do..Every now and then you'll get a huge over lay, where it pays way more then it should have. My guess is the same as what the above poster said..Many sharps (or big syndicates) had a big single that was NOT a favorite. Lot of times you have a wise guy horse that they won't give away in the win pool, and instead they play pk 3'/4'/6's off.

YES: That is very normal at SA; mavs...Not trying to make you feel bad, but when I was big into Calf racing, that was the norm on PK 6's..
Sounds like a big NY MOB JOB to me...You should focus on CALF tracks...Los Alamitos is a great small track for playing pk 4's..You see TONS of overlays there. I've seen 3 dead favorites and one bomb, and it lights up for an IRS ticket!

LES ONAKA freaking ROCKS!
I remember he gave out his "strongest play ever" one night in a 4 furlong race..It was 3/1 in the M/L..He shows the horses last replay..This horse had a horse in front of him check, and take him WAY out to the fence, and cost him about 15 lengths..the horse came FLYING back to get 3nd!
As soon as Les told the viewers of the horse, and showed that replay. the horse went from 5/2 to 1/5! ..Won by about 20 lengths!

how many winners in the pool? 161K in the pool isn't a lot for a NY track. Now if you were the only winner and got paid crap i'd understand. If for whatever reason there is 40 $2 tickets you going to get paid crap. congrats on the win and quit whining you cashed.

I'd be a little dissapointed too. Ive seen superfectas pay that much. Throw in the $27 horse and I'd guess at least double.

I know racing bud and there is nothing wrong with that payout. You dont think 15 other people are smart eniugh to hit the same thing. Yes there were no favorites but 5 of the winners were basically the 3 top choices in the field. The morning line crap dont mean shit. A $27.00 horse is not going to throw a pick 6 off that much. Mutual pools are never going to be consistent anyway but being the sharps you are you already knew that.

Odds change like nothing at Los Al. It isn't a major track. I agree that I'm sure he contributed to the drop but their pool cannot compare to any major track.

Pokernut: Just said it seems short compared to others I have seen with similar odds. I did not even look at the card out there today, so you may be right in that it wasn't as difficult as one may think. I realize the odds mean nothing, as the pools are separate. In any event it's $27K, and a great score! Like I said every now and then you get ones that you think pay more then they should.
robmpink: Los Al is just a small time track. It's just kind of a value track; as you can find a lot of overlays. Les and those guys on TVG can just bury the odds on a horse, so if you can lock onto something they are not all over, you often get a nice overlay.

When someone says they have hit 5 pick 6's with the biggest one 44k and today 27k and is still in the hole I dont respect his betting knowledge too much.
If he knew so much about odds and underlays he would understand horses have one the biggest takes in any gambling around. And might realize they are the hardest sport to beat.

I would love to know how you would come out playing his ticket every night. He always has the cheapest ticket and hits a heck of a lot . Seems like when ever I am watching he hits about 50% of the time but I dont see them all.

Sounds like a pretty slim pic6 with those odds. I said it awhile back but I once missed the 2nd end of a double superfecta(pick 1,2,3,4) in one race and if you win that pick 1,2,3,4 in another race) when my 4th place finisher got 5th in the 2nd leg. I ended up with 4k or something like that but was 2 feet from over 100k. The win feels good but you feel like crap with whatif.

The guy probably throws a ton of $$$ at them. At least he admits he's probably still down..How many horse players tell you ONLY of their winners? I also don't see anywhere in his post where he claims to be a great horse handicapper.
Agreed that horse racing has the highest take of any game (well unless you bet lotto, and scratch lottery rip offs); however, he was playing into a $100K+ carryover, so that is added $$$ to the pool, and reduces the overall take considerably depending how much was put into the PK 6 pool today. Every now and then you get some real good reduced takes in racing. Some tracks will offer a 10% or less take on selective pk 3's and 4's. In greyhound racing the best play of all time is when they force out a huge twin tri or tri super jackpot; as often the take will actually be in your favor with the big added $$$ that is paid out on the back half to all front half winners; as long as no one hits the jackpot.

When I said betting knowledge I was not referring to handicapping but the other varibles involved.
In the pick 6 today 300k was bet into it, that is 150,000 combos and 16 people hit which is not uncommon when 5 winners were the top 3 choices. To claim he was shafted is crazy and downright silly. If you feel that way then dont bet.
There were no odds on favorites in any races , 5 of the winners were (two) 2nd choices, and (three )3rd choices so as far as the crazy odds he talked about he is wrong.

It sounds more realistic by what you post pokernut.
Again; I did not look at the races there today. Just going off what he posted. By what you posted; I could see how a lot of spread tickets (where your using the top 3 or 4 choices in a race) could take it down.
Oh well; $27K is still a nice score. Lot of people never cash anything near that playing the horses.
Working up Los Al
