Question Anyone betting Ohio State because of SECs poor showing in bowls?

Is this good reasoning? To bet OSU cause SEC teams haven't looked good in the bowls so far?

I know some people that all of a sudden love OSU solely for this reason.

    Florida got smoked by Michigan
Auburn life or death versus average Clemson
    Arkansas got humilated by Missouri
    Tennessee barely defeating average Wisconsin
Kentucky,Alabama and Miss State were less than impressive.
Georgia looked good I'll give you that but Ohio State much more difficult than Hawaii.

Hey I'm a fan of the SEC but other than Georgia they haven't looked that great. Again I'm not a SEC hater just had some coversations with people tonight that had me thinking.

If I am not mistaken, the SEC is doing better than any other conference in the bowls this year.

I do think the championship game will be a good one, though. But I am from Ohio originally!

If the SEC is having a "poor showing" at 6-2 when every opponent they've played finished higher in their particular conference, than I would like to know who is doing well conference-wise. Miss State was the 8th ranked team in conference and shut out arguably the best running back in the country, Alabama was clearly faster in virtually every position against Colorado (granted their QB was atrocious and almost gave away the game single-handedly), and I've never known a win over this year's Clemson team to be a bad thing. Don't forget how bad LSU humiliated ACC champion Virginia Tech either.

If this is a "down year" for the SEC, than I hate to see what a "good year" for them will be like...

Mods: I nominate this as the stupiest thread of the year.

If not for SEC noone will be watching college football this year.

Damn do you people watch games with blinders on or what?

Other than Georgia's victory against a WAC opponent all the other wins were not impressive and unless you're a SEC Homer you can't argue with that.

Also when did I say this was a down year for the SEC? I still think SEC is the best conference but C'mon they've been less than impressive so far this bowl season.

I've long since quit being a "fan" of anyone (having at least four figures on and against every team in 1A football has a way of doing that to you), so I view myself as pretty objective. When your 6th best team beats Clemson, and your 8th best team holds Central Florida to three points and limits Kevin Smith's rush yardage that well, I think you've got an unbelievable conference. As for Arkansas, literally none of the coaches on their sideline will have their jobs today, and they were put up against the #6 team in the country at that. If you look at the mismatches the SEC gets placed in (i.e. being 1-4 spots lower in the SEC than their BCS conference opponents were in their respective conferences), I think it's even more impressive that they're 6-2. I don't know what else a conference can do to impress you, but if you're looking for even every unranked SEC team to beat their supposed top ten opponents by double digits it probably won't happen....

I don't know maybe you have a point. I was talking to people tonight who think the SEC hasn't looked good this bowl season and maybe that clouded my mind a bit hearing anti-SEC talk all night.

Then I see Arkansas get killed and Florida get really outplayed contributed to it. I'm going to be honest and it's just my opinion which doesn't mean anything but I'm simply not impressed with what I've seen with the SEC bowl teams so far.

Btw Clemson always finds a way to fuk up..

Yeah IMGV I think you are way off on this one... Don't forget that "average" Wisc. team BEAT TN. last year in the bowl game... I don't know what you expected but I think it was too much...

SEC is 6-2 and they are not going to go into the bowl season and smash everybody by 30 points... I think what you could say is the top teer of the SEC didn't look as good as people thought they would... Well the people were wrong... geee imagine that!

SEC is 5-2 against the spread in bowl games. Kentucky omitted because you could have won, lost or pushed depending on when you bet them.

Somehow now 5-2 ATS is considered a poor showing?

That being said, the Michigan result does scare me a little off the LSU position I loved. But it also helped drop the line a point, so it wasn't such a bad thing.

I have a much cleared mind right now then I did late last night so let me start over if I may.

Poor showing was not the right wording to describe what I was trying to say. Again I was talking to some cats last night who were bashing the SEC and it kinda got to my head. 6-2 is not a poor showing my bad on that one.

SEC has 8 solid teams no one can question that, but none of the SEC wins had that "Wow Factor" and the two losses were really bad.

I'm just saying if Wisconsin could keep it close with Tennessee and Michigan could beat up on Florida why couldn't OSU keep it close vs LSU?

most would agree that mizzou and UGA displayed the largest 'wow' factors. but who cares?

tennessee was missing 3 starters and 5 guys that play. tennessee was still the much more talented team. the vols looked like a bag of balls last year vs psu, that didnt seem to have much to do with the national title game.

I've got them 5-3 ATS, counting the Kentucky game as a loss (I had Fla.St. +8). Those are the only figures that matter to me as a bettor. Big Ten I have at 3-4 ATS. Advantage, SEC.

Bizarre line wasn't it, I think it opened Kentucky -1, they didn't know what to do when the suspensions came out, it ran all the way to -9 I think, then it dropped to -7 on game day. I got in at the last -8 I guess and had a winner. But a good argument could be made that they are 6-2, or at least 5-3-1 ATS.

5-3-1? thats 9 games brotha!! i know what ya meant and i agree, 5-2-1 seems about right in grading the SEC so far.

Missouri/Arkansas: A BCS caliber team gets stiffed and is forced to play a coachless, one-dimensional, 2nd-tier SEC team that probably should have been in the Emerald Bowl and the team with a chip on their shoulder wins easily.

Michigan/Florida: A very talented offensive team that really only needed rest and reps gets a month off during which their well-liked coach decides it will be his last game coaching faces a team that consists of exactly 2 significant players along with a mediocre defense and manages to stall a final drive that would have won the game.

OSU/LSU: Ohio State's difficulty with SEC teams is well-chronicled and likely overvalued in this scenario but certainly comparisons between Michigan/UF should not come into play when evaluating this contest. LSU is a defense first team and OSU likes to play close to the vest. Turnovers are likely to control the outcome of this game and a slight edge should go to the faster defense, but what should not be overlooked is the advantage OSU will have from the extra prep time under the radar this year vs. last year when they were crowned prematurely as champions.

According to my math Florida was the 3rd highest ranked team in the SEC and they lost to Michigan who lost to Appy State.

So that means Appy State would be the 3rd best team in the SEC and Michigan 4th if they played in the SEC conference.
