Default Do gambling and drug.alcohol abuse go hand in hand?

I am curious, it seems a lot of the gamblers I know in real life and on some of these forums are big into drugs and alcohol. Is it because a lot of us have addictive personalities or what? I know for me I dont let alcohol get out of control. I usually only drink on the weekends and plus im still in my twenties so I feel I have good partying left in me. I dont dabble into hard drugs though. However I smoke weed a little too much. I am cutting that way back in the new year and plan on only doing it occasionally. Do any of you think that there is a link to drug and alcohol with gambling?

I think having an addictive personality has a lot to do with it. I've had my fair share of vices, but right now I'm not damaging my lungs, liver, or nasal passages and simply emptying my wallet instead.

Gambling is easy to become addicted to, losing or winning.

Me, personally I dont have the link to the three of them. I drink sometimes, and I wager sometimes. As far as drugs go, if ya got a prescription for some good drugs more power to ya. If your out there smoking crack or meth on a daily basis, ya need to be sterilized to prevent any useless kids that will surely be produced, and be supported by my tax dollars.

I think its possible to have a link between gambling, drinking, and recreational drugs, but for me its not like that.

I agree with crazy that those that have an addictive personality, it can get really bad if your into all the above

I drink socially, know my limits, and depends on when I wager, its not something I have to do, just something that I like to do and win some extra money

And capitalist, I agree as well those crackheads need to be sterilized we have enough nut jobs running around society haha

After I win my Florida bet I'm gonna do a few rails and go and drink to celebrate new years. I don't see any problems.... Cee pass the J please.

Seriously if you have addictions it's usually multiple. If you hurt yourself to bad. If you need help there's help out there. I have a friend that gave up drinking and doing coke but HAD to take up smoking to replace it. He figures he's way ahead now.

It all depends on you. Nothing exceeds like excess when you have an addictive personality. Some are able to maintain better than others. I don't think drug use leads to gambling, but the habits can coexist in a person.

I'm sure some use drugs or alcohol after losses to "escape", but that could easily be substituted by eating unhealthy, mistreating your spouse, substances are incidental in that regard. It's up to an individual to police himself, and to be responsible for his health, mentally and physically.

I like that analysis. I've been known to empty my wallet from time to time as well

I smoke a bit of shrubs and drink a bit of hops, but nothing too regular. I gamble only when im not doing those things(unless i got ML on a big dog and its tied up with a minute to go, then i'll find the liquor).

haha, probably do go hand in hand. I love Bob Marley, Sublime, and Papoose. You do the math.

Drinking brings no benefits...

Gambling for some can lead to wealth

most big gamblers are heavy drinkers

casual/small players just drink normal and smoke pot

whales do coke
