Default Harder to hit, a baseball or a softball?

too many different variables in that. like they pointed out the baseball player is used to seeing the ball come from the same angle, now he was trying to adjust to hitting a different angle, same would go for women who are used to hitting fast-pitch softball, try and let them hit baseball. Did they take in account for the different style bats used, softball bats are lighter and the barrel is slim, where a baseball bat is heavier and has a larger barrel, you have to take those in account for the displacement of the mass of the ball hitting the bat at X speed and the speed of the bat. they did mention the difference in distances for baseball vs. softball, but i don't think they explored all the varibles. Plus at the beginning they let the baseball player throw first, then they let the softball player throw and it broke the equipment, maybe the baseball player almost broke it, and the softball was just icing on the cake.
i know from personally playing baseball, a good pitcher is hard to hit. i have played softball, well slow pitch, but we would go to the batting cages sometimes and jerk around in the fast pitch baseball(i think it was around 70-75) and fast pitch softball(i think was 50-55)and i could hit the softball with ease but constantly foul off or miss the baseballs, but i was also using a softball bat.
I just think there is too many variables missing, distance of mounds, elevation of mounds, the mass of the balls, the different size and weight of bats.

Yes, there are alot of different variables. I have faced pitchers in baseball throwing approx 85 mph and I have faced 2 world class fast pitch softball pitchers who clocked 100 mph.

With the mound being closer in softball--it is on you before you can react. You pretty much have to be in swing mode upon his release to make contact. It is harder to hit the softball from a pro than it is to hit a baseball.
As further proof I offer the King and His Court. The guy used to tour the country with 3 other guys taking on local all-star baseball teams and softball teams for money. He would strike out the locals with a blind fold on and from behind the mound (almost at second base)--it was quite a show. They would lose maybe once a year--AND it would be reported in national news outlets whenever it happened.

It's not too late to admit your mistake. Even JJ stuff was better than your recruits.

Credibility in this forum forever destroyed, newb. What a fool statement--for just more logical reasons than I can list (some have already been put out here). So, rather than take the time to list them all, I will just include the quote I recieved today from the sports editor (John Adams) of the local Knoxville News when he was queried concerning your ridiculous assertion:

"Of course, they've never played a boys' high school team, much less beaten one. They practice against some male students, that's probably where somebody got that idea.

    pwnd?

comical, The lady Vols practice, all the time, against male players and beat them. You can't officially play a game against a HS team, but you can certainly practice and scrimmage male teams. The lady vols are better than most HS boys teams, thats what i said, thats true.

    5 on 5 basketball
men who played HS ball vs the lady vols
    the lady vols win

im not sure what more you'd like, but you seem to have a little crush on me. i remember following around girls i thought were hot in 2nd grade and teasing them a bit to get some attention, you're not doing a bad job. i kinda like it.

I think this was one of the most interesting topics i have seen on the forum and i'm glad Mo posted it.

i just like to say, that sports science video is bullcrap. the first test they did where they had the ball break the machine, well, softball has much larger mass than baseball. forceis a function of mass...basic phsyics.

the second test, they had a baseball player hit a softball pitch. first, he is a baseball player, not a softball player. the correct way to conduct the experiment is to have 30 baseball players and 30 softball players (with similar playing experience and expertise) with each person taking turn hitting the baseball and softball.

that video clip proves nothing...i can say squash is harder than raquetball or rauetball is harder than squash by having a squash player plays a raquetball pro or a raquetball player plays with a squash pro...just to prove my either conjecture.

whoever design that show is an idiot.

that's ridiculous. Can you imagine Nolan Ryan throwing from a softball distance mound.

No softball pitcher is throwing 100 MPH. They make comparisons. They'll say he's throwing the equivalent of 100 MPH if you were at 60' 6".

Use to hit off of pitching machines that were throwing 100 MPH. It scares the crap out of you.

Just like they do in the LLWS, when they say "This 12 yr old who is throwing 74mph is actually throwing major league equivalent 92mph." It's BS. If that were true, there would be 12 yr olds hitting in the big leagues.

Also, there is a difference between the speed of the ball out of the hand and the speed of the ball as it crosses the plate.
