Default The NFL Commissiomer should investigate the blown call...

    ..in the Colts Steelers game.

I'm talking about the interception where they guy rolls on the ground and its over ruled as incomplete.

I have to think someone was on the take there. That's one of the worse calls I have seen in my 40 years of watching football.

They should look at the whole game. There was more then one call that went against the Steelers.

No pass interference call early in the game.
Interception overturned and called a incomplete pass. (Worse call I have ever seen)
Colts Encroachment, when there was no flag on a false start. Could of been a false start, but still a blown call either way.

Plus all the bad officiating on Saturday as well.

Porter accused the league of a conspiracy against the Steelers (13-5) after witnessing an interception by strong safety Troy Polamalu get reversed following video review. It seemed clear that Polmalu had possession of the ball on a diving catch -- after which he rolled on the ground, then lost it while attempting to rise to his feet -- but the officiating crew called the Colts offense back onto the field.

Four plays later, Indianapolis scored a touchdown and added a 2-point conversion to make the score 21-18 with 4:24 remaining. The Steelers ultimately survived, but only after Vanderjagt and the Colts failed to take advantage of Jerome Bettis' fumble at the Colts 2, which was returned to the 42 by Indianapolis defensive back Nick Harper with 1:01 to play.

"We dominated the whole game -- till the referees wanted to help them," Porter said.

The outspoken linebacker, who challenged the Colts' toughness in the days leading up to the game, did not stop there.

"I couldn't believe they were going to try to cheat us like that, for real," Porter said. "That was my thing. After we made that play (the near-interception), I thought the game was over. ... I'm going to get in trouble for it, I already know I'm going to get in trouble for it, but I'm ready to pay (the fine) anyway, because that's how mad I was with the refs out there. That was the worst I've ever been a part of. When you play in games, you feel (sometimes) like it might not be going your way. But that was cheatin' right there, man."

Referee Pete Morelli had a different view of things.

"I had the defender catching the ball," Morelli said in a statement. "Before he got up, he hit it with his leg, with his other leg still on the ground. Therefore, he did not complete the catch."

    Porter's response?

"C'mon, y'all seen it, man," he said. "What do we gotta do to make an interception? He caught the ball, rolled on the ground, got up and knocked the ball out of his hand with his knee. How can you say that's not an interception?

"It was just one of those games, the world wanted Indy to win so bad, they were going to do whatever they could. It was like the 9/11 year when they wanted the Patriots (who beat the Steelers in the AFC final) to win it for the world, just for the patriotic of the world. That's what they wanted for Indy today. They wanted (quarterback Peyton Manning) to win that game no matter what happened. They want him to win that game and they were going to give him all the opportunities to win it."

In an MSNBC poll (also see MSNBA column ripping Manning) of more than 2000 "voters" as of 1:45 AM on Monday, 94% sys the refs blew the call on Troy pick.

What agme were the other 6% watching???

Everything I know about football, I learned from John Madden. Didn't he used to say "One knee equals two feet."? Well, I think Palomalu must've had a knee, a tailbone, an elbow, and maybe even a chinstrap. The NFL needs to release a better explanation.

The wording for ruling a "catch" absolutely must be adjusted and I suspect it will. Along with the "tuck" rule, these situations are grotesquely misinterpreted on a regular basis. My advice is to completely do away with the "tuck" rule since we all know it is really a fumble, and to declare something a catch when control is established with two feet down (no 'subjective' football move) required.

That having been said, in the case of the Polemalu INT, it is clear he caught the ball and possessed it while falling to the ground and rolling over, then while making a football move (getting up off the turf) he fumbled and then recovered the ball. The call was blown even when applying the cryptic and vague rule.

    Demotion.

    Quite right.

It's easy to come up with every conspiracy theory under the sun but when you're dealing with a bonehead ref, that's something else.

What I find incredible is the fact that there's a dodgy call made despite the benefits of video replay. In soccer, there are numerous dodgy calls every week but in a fast moving game with only the referee's eye to make the call then it's expected. How the fcuk can you make a bad call when you have a chance to look at it over and over again?

taco, if people wanna blame the commissiomer for something. they need to look into how he tried to extort all that money for the Rams, when they tried to move to ST.Louis.

What does it for me is the time taken to come to a decision. It was blatantly obvious to all that the catch that was made was clean and that posession was absolute up until the time his knee knocked the ball (which was also blatantly obvious). So why did the call take so long i ask myself. That a-hole was racking his brain to come up an "excuse" is why!

however you look at it, it was a damn exciting quarter, I was on the edge of my seat there at the end. Poor Palamalu, that kid almost had 3 picks but he sure got robbed of one.

Instant reply was put back in to stop bad calls from happening.
Now we are getting bad calls in result of instant reply, or just plan stupid explanations of a call. So they need to sit down and come up with a better form of instant reply or just get rid of it all together, if its not going to help make the right calls. It just prolongs the game if it dont help.

After they ruled on the non-interception Palamalu did his best to get it back... on the very next play... after that Indy got smart and stayed away from him . He wasnt going to be denied.

NFL says ref got Polamalu call wrong; no comment on Porter remark

By DAVE GOLDBERG, AP Football Writer
    January 16, 2006

The NFL said the referee made a mistake: Troy Polamalu caught the ball.

The league acknowledged Monday that referee Pete Morelli erred when he overturned on replay Polamalu's interception of a Peyton Manning pass Sunday in the playoff game between Pittsburgh and Indianapolis.
OK we are making progress at least.

Yeah, no shit, it's not progress, it's more expected BS. The whole world knows that call was BS, when they start showing it and discussing it on FoxNews, you know the NFL is going to come out and make Morelli it's lamb.

It's like if somebody decides to go out in public and urinate all over sleeping homeless people, a cop sees him doing it, says according to his angle (which happens to be within point blank range of the rampant pisser) that it appeared the guy was accidently spilling water out of his Evian bottle. The store cameras around the premises clearly show the man is pulling out his dick and draining the sleeping homeless people with fresh squeezed lemonade, and after, the police dept. apologizes that their officer made an error. WTF.

The NFL can go fuc.k itself, they constantly rig and set up games as best they can, and everybody knows it. For those that don't know, the apparent procedure of how they choose refs for the playoffs is they base it on a cumulative grade from the regular season officiating where they supposedly keep progress reports and grading cards of the official's calls through every game. You're telling me that the set of officials with this past weekend's games were 4 of the highest graded crews out there. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Keep feeding the public your BS, the NFL is a professional sized joke.

Here's the amazing thing that nobody talks about on TV. The idiot ref has someone in the booth helping him with the call, doesn't he? So if Morelli says "that's no catch" someone upstairs has to agree with him?

You think those guys were discussing the validity of that play? F'n Stevie Wonder could have felt out that play on a braille screen. Morelli and the other moron were up there discussing and devising an explanation to rule the play incomplete, not to mention, I think the NFL requires that there is a 90 sec. maximum on replays, I didn't tape the game, but I am dead positive that the replay went WELL over the 90 second limit.

I'm just waiting for Morelli to commit career suicide and come out and say he was told by so and so to rule that incomplete. That'll be beautiful.
