Post Unit Size

What are your thoughts about how big your unit size should be according to your bank roll? . . . i was thinking 20/25 bets? so if your bank roll to start the season was 5k, your unit size should be $250/200?
Im trying to get everything planned out so when i get back in the game, I can find success. This season i had a winning record easily but profit didn't go accordingly because i lost the games i bet harder for some reason (i guess with all the upsets this year). It seems the stragety of betting different units on each game depending on how strong you feel about it , however if i was to bet a consisent amount this year i would be on the plus side easy.
I notice pags plays the same amount of units on each game for that week most of the time ( with the expection of week night games) but changes his unit size based on beginning , middle , and end of the season. Im Thinking of using that logic, but then its hard to decide when to push the unit size. Do you push after a winning week trying to feel the rush coming?
Would like all of your input on this one thanks and GL to all your cappers out there!

Thats a good q, ill give you my take on it.

Im from the school of any game can and will loose, there is no such thing as a lock. Thus with my thinking how could I justify betting 3 units on a game that I love but only betting 1 unit on a game that im pretty confident in.

I bet the same amount of unites on ever straite bet. When I have 2 games that I feel really good about, two games that some might bet 3-4 units on each game I will parlay them for my same unit straite bet or for 1/2 my unit bet. I still bet them straite I just hook them up if they are what I feel are some of my top plays. Seams to work well for me rather than loading up on 2 games I love with a big straite bet and loosing it. This way if I pick both my good games right I get payed off on the parlay odds and im rewarded with good capping.

Just my thoughts

Parlay odds are nice to hit, however it's an all or nothing form of betting, and it's hard to hit on a consistint basis

It depends on how many units you are betting per game.

I don't like ever having more than 5% of my total bankroll on a football game or about 2.5% on a basketball game -- and usually my bet size is about half that.

Im pretty new at this but I think that the same bet on every game is the way to go....every once in a while when Im pretty sure on a game I will double up on it but that is just when I have a gut feeling which is really nothing to bet the house on but Im not a high roller so take this with a grain of salt.

I'm new as far as the "unit" terminology Louisvillekid....would you mind giving me a crash course on units per game(if you don't mind). Thanks...As far as the parlays your right there's no consistency, but when you hit them, their sweet!!!

El Matador, a unit = 1% of your total bankroll. Betting 1% of bankroll is the ultimate goal, but then you should have at least a 5k bankroll so your wager is 50.00. If you have 1k as a bank roll a 1 unit bet is 10.00 If you are a season player as myself that would amount to winning mabe 200.00 to 250.00 on a great nfl/ncaa season. I like to put 1k in two different books at the start of football. My min bet is 50.00 I average between 100 to 150 a game and it has proven to be profitable. So unless u have a large bankroll the idea of betting 1 unit is not that great.

IMO 1 unit should equal no more than 2% of entire bankroll.

Amazing how much spam I get about unit size. Apparently, it matters and it's about pills. And what's a guy to do with a d*ck three times bigger when the tight little vaginas don't keep up with the pace.

I agree with xxProviderxx. Straight bets are generally the way to go. A good example of how not to play a winning streak-I hit 3 parlays in college BB last week, then lost most of it on Friday cause I put extra units on a straight up loss. I know what you mean about how pags will play differnt unit sizes during the course of the year...he said he would explain it to me after football season, but now I'm not so sure I will ever know why he plays it that way. I assume he has a good reason. Also, I have noticed a steep decline in my winning % in NCAA football since about 3 weeks ago. I'm really glad I droppped my unit size when I did. Otherwise I would be under for the year.

I think the star system is something put out by Touts. Straight betting is the way to go.. I like using 1% of my bankroll flat betting.I don't think anyone can actually know which play is better. There is actually no standards or scientific criteria upon which the stars are based.

Winning 200-250 after a good season, is not very successful to me. So we have to get this right to make some $. So lets say a great football season is + 20 units at that rate 50 x 20 = 1000 bucks, and that would be a 50% percent increase since you have 1000 in two books, and that is a great increase. so know your up to 3000. If applied to bigger bank rolls, then yea a 50% increase would be great. But at these limits, after a great season,i think i would espect to be atleast around 5000. So i guess you have to throw in a rare 10 unit play like once or twice a season, along with maybe 3-5 plays being from 5-7 units. Just to get away from the normal 1-3 unit play throughout the year. . . Where is pags when you need him!

Default Unit Size

I'd say mine is about 8 inches. According to bankroll: Well, I'd say the bigger your bankroll, the more you can get away with a smaller one.

with college football and college hoops, I believe it's harder to handicap games at the beginning of the season (learning about the teams) and the end of the season (lines get very tight)...this is why my money management strategy is the way it is...

I think i overlooked something in this thread. If you start of with 2500 and your using 2% percent of you bank roll as your unit size (50 a unit) . . lets say after the first two week up up 500 and now your bank roll is 3000. So would that correlate in a raise of unit size from 50 to 60. This will provide a more effiecnt increase in your roll.
