    Default Being a bookie

Say an acquaintance of yours is dying to find a bookie but refuses to play online.

What kind of bankroll do you need to take one persons action? Say the better is a $20 player and will go $100 for a big play.

He could run that to about $1,000 or a little more if he got on a tear. Keep in mind for 1 guy you will do a lot of work. If he is that small he may have a figure +/- $100 each week. Thats a lot of work for a single c-note.

Booking one persons bets is rather pointless IMO.

I guess considering the wager amounts (20-100 a game), I would say 5 dimes would be more than enough to cover it.

If this person is a friend, the friendship will be over if you do this.

I have booked friends action, while I'm still on speaking terms not one of them is close friends anymore. When they are winning all is great, when they lose you get I didn't bet $50 on that game, or I didn't do that.... it always ends up in problems. Don't do it.

I agree it is a big mistake. You'll argue over lines and getting paid.

If you do this it is not a matter of if you will get screwed, but a matter of when you will get screwed.

If your friend doesn't want to find their own bookie or open up their own on-line account, then how do you expect them to pay you if they lose? If they win, and win big, you may end up with tax problems if the amounts get too large. If you start expanding and operate a bookie service through your account, you may have your account closed by the book itself. What will happen if the book has problems with delayed payouts?

If you really, really want to do this, IMO, better get the money up front and only take an occasional bet here or there, or you will be looking for trouble later.

If the guy starts losing way too much money and cannot pay he may wear a wire and go to feds, I know what I am talking about here.

Why do people refuse to play online anyway? I understand there are crooks out there but that is why you scope out a legit business. These are probably the same people who are afraid to use a CC to make purchases online, but are more than comfortable handing one to a cashier making $8/hr. at a gas station.

Can you explain why he wont play on a legit and trusted site?

for 20 bucks to call a bookie every day and have to bother him to get paid, it just doesnt make much sense

If you do it here's the way you do it. You tell him you will pass on the bets to your book. If he loses you will collect from him on tuesday as you pay your book on wednesday. If he wins you pay him on thursday as you collect on wednesday. It'll be a pain in the ass but that's what I'd do.

What ever you do pay him always and make him collect on the proper days.

I was just curious about it all. I've never met the guy, but apparently a friend of mine who knows I gamble told his buddy at work that I have a bookie. I only play online and couldn't help him.

But if the guy is desperate enough to have someone take his action, wouldn't it be profitable to take his action on 6:5 odds?

Very good advice though from this board about not taking friends action. Sharp posts about it. I certainly don't plan on ruining any friendships that way.

the first thing that you should do is ask your friend how much money he is willing to lose. if he says "five hundred" then tell him as soon as he gives you five hundred dollars you will start placing his bets for him. if he loses all of this money, he will want to play on credit, thats when you start over "how much money are you willing to lose?" .......
