Exclamation Great, but rarely used feature: Post Reporting

A lot of posters have asked what they can do to help us improve, and contribute to the board. We get some great feedback and that includes posts in the suggestions forum.

One of the things everyone can do that takes no time and little effort is to "report" posts that don't belong. Each post offers a button. All you have to do is click it and an email will be sent to the forum team. The poster cannot see who reported it and nothing is marked on their posting account. It simply helps our staff see it sooner. You guys can essentially help moderate threads as an extra set of eyes.

However, this isn't quite like the Digg.com bury-it feature where if you simply don't like the post, you vote against it.

So when should you use Post Reporting?

    • When post is made that is completely off topic and detouring a thread.

    • When vulgarity or inappropriate language is used.

    • When a post is made attacking the poster versus the content of their post.

We have the most liberal free speech policy of any forum of this kind and there have been very few issues. Posters can count on us always being an open forum. We do think that this feature, when used correctly, will help the quality of the conversations and keep threads focused on the intended topic.

And, might I add, in case your dislike of someone is so juvenile that you feel the need to abuse this feature, there's always a button called "Ignore".

Yes, that is a negative for the mod team but we can handle it. We recently had someone send us over 100 "reports" in a few days and claim we were ignoring him.

Overall it really is a great feature. It takes a fraction of the time rep points does and actually serves a purpose.
