Default Does your family know you gamble?

Honest question, who in your family actually knows you gamble

I have never told my parents or my sisters

Just my Brothers know about it, thats only because they got me in to it PLus My Girlfriend obviously knows about it too

If my parents knew about it, they would be worried sick, even though i am completely in control unlike JJ

you're not in control, you just think you are. give it some more time. and some members of my family do, but not all. at least the one's who pay attention.

Its a moot point to argue with you if i am in control or not as you dont know me or anyone else here personally

BUT if i was able to shrug off a 1-7 Sunday a few weeks ago and NOT bet more than 1 Unit on the Sunday or Monday night games, than that means you have it under control in my book at least

None of my family members know that I'm an action junkie that loves to bet on sports. My family members would go ape sh*t if they knew how often and the amounts that I bet. LOL.

We hide it from everyone, I pretend I sleep when I watch games if family around or I have to go to a function. I pretend I do not like sports.

Everyone knows about my poker playing but not everyone knows about the sportsbetting. Basically all the male members know because they are all doing it also. My mom probably has an idea, just doesnt say nothing to me.

Let's see... wife knows. Brother and mother do, too. Just not Dad. And just one friend (he questioned why I was so adamant about some meaningless game when we were watching games at a sports bar - LOL).

    No one else.

Everyone knows...wife, kids, father, mother, siblings, grandparents, etc. My kids know I am a genius and making money. My wife thinks I might be a genius, but I'll probably lose it all at some point because everyone always does. Everyone else knows I am an idiot who will eventually be asking them for money to cover my mortgage.

There isn't anyone on this forum who is "in control" of their gambling. Everyone on here is a degenerate. Lot of guys on here would suffer severe depression if they couldn't gamble.

I'll discuss it with my family over dinner at the racetrack on Sunday. But only after we finish discussing who we like in the first race.

To answer your question pretty much everyone knows I gamble. I gotta have a good reason on how I come up with the money to afford my 24inch LCD widescreen monitor and why I need it.

    Yes.

I had to explain to my mom that working for sportsbookreview didn't mean I was editing books about sports, but that was about it. Hell, I learned a lot in my younger days about gambling from her brother who was a pit boss at Sam's out in Vegas for a long while. Hard to keep anything a secret in my family.

My family and in-laws all know. In fact, my brother-in-law calls me "the Bookie" at family gatherings. He doesn't have a clue at what I do, but thinks Bookie covers it.

My wife's co-workers don't know, and when asked, I just say I'm one of those on-line investors.

Everyone I know knows I gamble. I'm very open about my business. Everyone at the office knows I like to bet on sports. All my friends know. Both my sisters have been supportive but my parents wish I would quit.

I think that making it open is a big mistake. If your ever broke and need to ask someone for money they will never give it to you if they think your gonna bet it on a game or if they know your in the situation because of gambling.

Only tell people what you have to.

I love how society views gamblers as such scum. Its as if you would be received better if you were somebody who cleans toilets for a living.

Everyone has a dark side, there are a lot of worse things happening than gambling. It is the same problem as with drugs, if you can´t control yourself it will totally destroy you.
I know happy gambling Pros thou, they exist

What I find funny is that gambling is percieved somehow as wrong, yet any joe can open up an etrade account, lose thousands in the stock market by day trading and somehow people are ok with that. Doesn't make sense to me. Stock market, Forex, etc... are more similar to sports betting than most think.

This thread reminds me of a friend of mine. Both he and his wife are Italian but she was obilvious to how her family made their living (they were connected). She used to ask him why he was bothering some man on sunday mornings to bet nickels and dimes. If he really had to bet she'd pay him off. Funny how people don't understand how many zeros can go after 10 dimes.......

Made the mistake of telling my brother I gamble on the NFL now and then, and he makes it a point to call me a degenerate gambler whenever it suits him - regardless if I am just a relatively small time bettor.

Tell only those that share in your hobby, and, never make it a point to discuss sports betting with those who don't care or understand what is going on.

If you want to vent or discuss sports betting, that is what this forum is here for IMO, regardless of the range of posters here.

Never tell anyone you bet sports, it its taboo and not accepted by most.

This is very true. I also cannot stand discussing sports in general with non-gamblers, I feel like they just regurgitate SportsCenter talking points.
