Default I Wish We All Had To Post Under Our Real Names...

I rarely participate in gaming forums, be it poker, sportsbook, thoroughbred, etc. It becomes quite easy for the testosterone level to get high, and the next thing you know you're worse for the wear for having gotten into a pissing contest with a small-time idiot.

It'll never happen, but I think the best way to counteract a lot of this would be if posters were forced to use their real names. Rather than having "tacomax" antagonizing "raiders" (just using a recent altercation between these two as an example), if you had Bill Simmons the mechanic from Leicester, England, stirring up shit with John Van Der Meer the professor from Yuma, AZ, the two might be a lot more apt to watch how far they take things. Anonymity promotes cheap shots and aggressive behavior without the fear of being exposed or retribution, and I for one don't like hiding. In addition, many try to tout or build their "forum cred", whereas in real life they're simply losers. I'm a member of a community forum where everyone (city commissioners, business owners, etc.) posts under their full name, and it might just be the most productive forum around. Ideas are discussed far more than personal attacks, and we're all the better for it.

Would be curious if there were any sites out there that had their members post under their legal names? GL...

I've often thought the same thing about drivers, BB. Imagine how much more courteous we might all be if your name and address was plastered across your front and rear bumpers.

I'm a member of several academia forums which use that, and it works fine there. Gambling I suspect is seen as more taboo and people don't want to identify themselves.

I like it Willie Bee. Of course, a side effect that would come from that would be that people would have to be a lot more careful about the type of establishments they visit and park their cards if they have something to hide. I'd also like a straight turn arrow as well while they're at it

Gamblers are looked down on in society that is reason no names are given.

It's an interesting idea. It would be funny if a forum just suddenly switched everyone's ID to their real name and you could go back and see guys having long relationships with their ghosts:

Bob Jones: I am on quite a roll with my NBA picks
    Bob Jones: You da man!
Bob Jones: We are lucky to have Bob Jones posting picks.
Bob Jones: I agree with Bob Jones here.
Jim Harper: I have been following your picks and you have had a small hot streak but overall you are hitting exactly 50%. That is a bookie's dream.
Bob Jones: Stop hating on Bob Jones. This forum needs Bob Jones.
Bob Jones: I agree with Bob Jones here.
    Bob Jones: Thanks guys.

This isn't the type of community where I want everyone knowing my full name.

Whereas getting a mortgage which you can't afford to begin with and then in two years you get foreclosed is considered bad luck and the government has to bail you out. Isn't that a form of government sponsored gambling?

Good post BB. My real name and picture have been posted on the forums.

Well, not sure how obvious this is, but my username is simply a combination of my first and last names. Though I guess you'd still have a pretty hard time figuring it out what it was if you wanted to.

What a great thread. Humor. Good writers with good grammar (haven't seen "there" for "their" - sorry but that happens so much by so many different posters that it makes me cringe ) . An interesting topic worthy of discussion, along with its lending itself to some clever responses.

Actually, SBR and, I assume, at least some of the moderators have our names and addresses if we participate in BTP. That almost stopped me from playing because I tend to be very wary of all things internet. Glad I did, though. Two winners so far and within striking distance of the season end prizes.

Too many cowards online for this idea to work. 50% of the posters on SBR would leave if they had to give their real names while posting bullshit.
