Default Use legal name if using ************

I opened up an account using my nickname at a sportsbook, and the security department locked my account because the names were not matching my CC deposits due to using a short form of my name.

I just talked to the manager and settled the problem quickly, as it was a "security guard" who never lived in the States and did not understand and their software is programmed to detect even one character off when comparing names.

What if you have your nickname printed on the CC itself?

Default ask the bank to change it

If you have your nickname on your CC, I would change it to your legal name (ask the bank to send you another one). The books ask for driver's licenses too, and you want the two to match.

I have also had a problem, by the way, using virtual cards, and then the book wants a scan of the physical card.

The problem is you have these "security guards" in Costa Rica who have never lived in the states and they don't know that "Bob" means the same as Robert. So you get to have your account locked for a day, and need to spend a couple hours doing work to get it unlocked.

I guess there could be a lot of that. You got Bob - Robert, Joseph - Joe William = Bill Ted = Edward etc. Never really thought of that.

Default This is a lesson I have learned

This came very close to being a complaint with SBR. I figured Bill would also be upset if his account was locked because he used a CC with William Doser on it :-)

Fortunately, all my accounts have the same name as my driver's license and CC now.

If you are getting CC declines, keep in mind that the sportsbook has a security procedure as well as the bank; it is very possible the bank would have approved the transaction and it is the book that doesn't like it because of this type of name mismatch.

Makes you wonder why a "security guard" even has access to your transaction. Isn't it done through the computer?
