Default Question On Sports Services, Handicappers, Etc.

Alright, I know that the vast majority of them are scam artists, but what are the top five sports services or handicappers that could actually help the average square bettor? There's got to be at least 5 or 10 of them that are worth the money they charge. Anybody have a top 5?

I would never consider using them, I'm just curious if anybody is actually worth their salt. I've heard good things about Phil Steele and Gridiron Gold, but that's about it. Anybody else have any?

I have made a killing fading Steele's picks.

Phil Steele will bury you as will almost every service out there. Someone on one of these forums has been following Steele and he was down around 20% (4-14 or something like that) for the pre season. He will do like any tout and talk about the great runs he has had...but over the course of almost every season, you will lose money paying him for picks. Keep in mind you have to hit 52.4% WITHOUT paying a service just to show a profit. Once you start paying for picks, that percentage must go up drastically as well depending on the amount you are paying and the amount your unit size is.

I think you guys are missing my point. I'm not thinking of getting one or anything like that. I'm just curious if any of them are worth it or not because everything else I hear about them is horrible.

Are these guys just great promoters or great salespeople or what?

So none of them are worth the price you'll pay?

That is all they are...the best handicappers in the world are busy making money betting their own picks...not sharing them with others to move the lines.

I guess there's just so many of them, that I figure they must be making money. If that's the case, how can people be so stupid?

Desperate...most gamblers lose. If they feel like someone has winning information after they have been losing for years, why not give something like that a shot? Touts play off the emotions of gamblers and losing...they know the feeling well, they lose too. All they do is hype their wins and disregard their losses.

If they could win, they wouldn't be spending money to advertise their picks...they would be throwing it on games.

I like BenBurns and looking at the Hilton Super contest picks. Cant see paying for a pick, kind of like paying for a pick on a coin flip.
