    Hines Ward.... Hall of Famer?

when all is said and done?

he will have pretty impressive stats, but he was never a dominant receiver.... rarely even the #1 option on his own team....

maybe the huge smiles, trash talking, and jawbreaking blocks put him over the top?

IF, he retires right now an never plays again -- I'm not so sure, if he does it takes a long time for him to get in, his numbers are slightly less than Art Monk (in about 2 less seasons).

It took a Monk awhile to get in, plus Ward has the benifit of playing in a more pass first era.

I think Ward will play 2-3 more solid years, which will put him around 1100 recpetions, 13000 yeards and 100 TDs, which would make him HoF Worthy

    good reponse gryer.....

yeah I honestly thought the guy would be done before he was 30, with the hits he takes and gives.... he is like a RB... 13 seasons is alot for any position, but more than a few have had long successful careers at that position

I'm not so sure about that.

I think he has been a very good, borderline great player but, at best, he's a borderline HOF candidate at this point, IMHO...

how many pro bowls has he even been to? not more than 5 I would think.....

I'm a huge stillers fan, and Hines has always been my favorite player, even when he was just drafted and a special teamer..... I loved him at Georgia even....

but just can't see him being a lock, when like I said before, he has almost always been the SECOND best receiver on his own team

    2. SUPERBOWL MVP

    3. On December 2, 2007, Ward became the Steelers all-time touchdown receptions leader with his 64th touchdown

I hate the Steelers, but c'mon now, how many Steelers games have you guys watched? Hines Ward is always one of the best Football Players on the field. If you are a great all around football player, Canton will recognize it.

What makes Ward stand out is that he is a Steeler who plays physical, which adds to the Steelers mystique.

Ward signaled to the Ravens bench for help

just because he beat out super receivers that played 6-8 years, in an era where the Stillers ran the ball 65% of the time does not mean he is great....

against his contemporaries.... what years would you say Ward was even a top 5 receiver? meaning if you could pick any receiver from any team that year to be on your team...... I doubt he would be in 95% of people's top 5 lists year to year....

longevity is nice...but it shouldn't be a "lock" for HOF status

I'm beginning to believe 90% of the board don't know shit about sports and bet on teams by flipping coins.

The average football fan knows Hines Ward is not a joke and anybody would take him on their team.

    CHI-ARCH

You are way off here my friend, WARD is a surefire Hall of Famer..........

He is the all-time leading Steeler reciever in RECEPTIONS, TD'S, YARDS(by a ways in all three categories).............that alone is enough to qualify him and get him in.

Throw in two rings and a SB MVP and you have a free ticket to the HOF.....................

    Fish,
It's not as clear as you seem to think it is...

SUPERBOWL MVP - well, so was Doug Williams, and nobody is saying he should be in the HOF, are they?

GREAT BLOCKER - OK, I'll give ya that...but the position is receiver. Being a good blocker is certainly a good thing but it doesn't make you a HOF'er.

ALLTIME STEELER IN THE BIG THREE RECIEVING CATAGORIES - Great! Put him in the Steeler HOF! Yeah, I know that Lynn Swann and John Stalworth played for the Steelers back in the day, but their numbers are not impressive. Lynn Swann 336 receptions, 5462 yards, 51 TD's. He's not in the top 250 all time in receptions in the NFL. John Stalworth is 90th on the all time reception list with 537 receptions. (http://www.pro-football-reference.co...rec_career.htm)

I've certainly got him behind Marvin Harrison, Chris Carter, Tim Brown and Andre Reed. He's also (probably) behind TO and Randy Moss.

As I said in this thread or the other Hines Ward thread, he's a very good, borderline great player, but as far as the HOF is concerned, he's still on the outside looking in. Now, he may get there, but if he never played another down, I don't think he gets in...I just don't.

HINES has that PLUS an array of other pluses............the SUPERBOWL MVP is but one feather in his cap.

You're the one who brought up the SB MVP, not me...

Seriously, when you say surefire HOF, I say Jerry Rice. I DO NOT say Hines Ward. Sorry...

Do you have him in front of Harrison, Carter, Brown, or Reed?

Until all four of those guys get in, don't come to me with Ward. Just don't.

Do you have him in front of TO or Moss? Both are four plus jerks, I know. But their numbers dwarf Ward's. They just do.

Reasonable people can agree to disagree...I just don't think, at this point, that he's a "surefire HOF'er"...just don't. Sorry...

it would depend on your definition of a top 5 receiver.

Guy has put up solid numbers year in and year out, goes against the grain in terms of style of play for a WR, and has a superbowl MVP to his name.

Do I think that gets him into the HOF? absolutely not.

I'm probably a little [biased], but I think he's the best receiver in the game," Steelers safety Troy Polamalu said. "You can never ask anymore from anybody with what he does. His blocking from a receiver, he catches the football, he's able to have all of these great receiving statistics even though we're a running offense.

"To have that whole package, I don't think anybody in the NFL has that. I hope that he's remembered as a Hall of Famer, because that's what we all believe that he is."
