    Default OT: Dentist Bills

Does anyone go to the dentist and walk out with a huge estimate for your teeth? Everytime I go, there is a new problem that requires porcelian this or porcelian that.

I swear they upsell you every chance they get and not just for products.

Why do I need porcelian in the BACK of my mouth? Do I really need an oral cancer test for $60.00?

Does anyone else have these same problems?

Patrick they are all frauds, you do not need a dentist most of the time, just brush your teeth. I remember a ways back a dentist promised to make me look like a movie star with new teeth and $4000 later I looked the same.

Patrcik I fukked him and gave him $5 after I had him up against a wall ready to pop him and said if you want the rest come to Newark and get it and he never showed. I paid $5 Patrick only

Fuk him guy and stiff him the bills, the only people I do not stiff are bookmakers and sharks.

Patrick show them your the boss.

Coach, I brush and floss twice a day. I also go for cleanings three times a year and use every product under the sun.

Was your dentist legit? Either way, that is a FUNNY STORY.

I've spent several thousands of dollars on dental work the past couple of years. You should get a second opinion if you think your dentist is trying to take you to the cleaners. My employer does not pay for my dental insurance. I have a separate individual policy but the benefits aren't that great.

Hrm... Porcelian.. maybe he reads your SBR comments and thinks you have a potty mouth? Hence all the Porcelian!

I'm glad I don't have to pay for dental or medical here in Kanada!

That's true, but apparently you were about to pay for more than you got with your dentist here in the good ol' U.S. of A.

For really big dental jobs, or medical work of any kind, I recommend that people look into having it done in THAILAND. There are many honest, careful, and highly educated professionals there. It is generally a thoughtful and ethical culture, especially among the upper classes. Walk into any medical/dental office in Bangkok with $500 bucks in your pocket and you are treated like a king. Plus they do that lovely Thai bow (called a "wai" I believe) when you leave. And, after the percodan wear off ... or maybe even before ... you can enjoy tropical paradise. Just a thought.

My dental plan doesn't have a co-pay for airfare to Southeast Asia. Otherwise I'd consider it, regularguy.

Dental schools offer excellent care at low cost. Another good option is a subsidized provider specializing in low-income/uninsured patients.

Thank you for the information; where do you go for information on the schools.

Low income would not be an option for me

    Good stuff though.

I had a crown done a couple years ago, about $1000, not sure what I paid after the insurance picked up their share. I went with gold, not porcelin, it was in the back where you couldnt see it anyways.

    later

Crowns still cost the same but insurance is worse. I hate my dentist.

Anyone can use these providers and they generally have low rates even at full price. If you qualify for any discount, that's gravy.

A good source for expected dental costs is:

For anyone living in the Southwest, I guess a lot of people go to Mexico. I saw a story about it on the local news. Many of the dentists trained in the United States.

when i was a kid i didn't like to brush my teeth. when i did brush on the rare occasion i probably did a pretty poor job. i think my mom got some insurance when i was about 12 years old so i was the taken to the dentist. my dentist wasnt a firm believer in pain killer, so i was in a lot of pain during the 14 fillings i withstood. at that point i decided to start brushing my teeth more often. now i have a pick that i use after lunch to get all the food outta my teeth. my wife and i both have dental coverage, so when i need something done , it dosn't cost anything, except in one situation..........i decided, the last time that one of my teeth hurt, that instead of getting a re-filling or a new filling i would just have the tooth pulled out. so i am now minus one tooth, but the nice thing is that it hasn't hurt since!! here's the rub though: my insurance covers everything EXCEPT the cost of pulling teeth. i had to shell out 150 dollars to have my tooth pulled!! anyhow ,that's my new strategy........ teeth, who needs em?

Bateman, I know you think I am a jackass. But, I found a dentist who uses an all natural approach. No dangerous metals in the fillings. I moved since then but I found that there is a whole movement in dentistry for the natural approach. This guy never tried to sell me anything. Reallly helped me.

I don't think you are a jackass; we have not seen eye to eye on certain subjects but I still respect you.

What did he/she use for fillings and was the "natural" approach expensive?

The treatments I got were very reasonable compared to what the other dentists were charging. I was suffering from some kind of poisoning from the old fillings, I had to have them all removed and replaced with something that wouldn't hurt me.

I'm not sure what the fillings are made of. Ceramic or porcelain I think. My teeth look wonderful.
