Was just messing around today with my archived transactions at neteller and noticed about 5 years ago i made 5 $2000 deposits over a six month span to bodog and i know for a fact i never withdrew from the book. Boy was I a square...

I was only 21 then and I'm pretty sure i went into this with no plan at all. I consider myself a very successful gambler now but looking back at things it was very sad.

This is my rookie year and so far I am up 130 for the season. My plan is to bet small this football season and then evaluate where I am at the end of the season.

Lost a lot of bets but a $50 bet was huge back then.

I actually did better in the years from around 1991 (my "rookie" years) to aound 1999, than now. (Tho I've never failed to show a flat bet profit in the bowl games, knock on wood don't fail me me.)

Before I had a pc and was online I did better betting football.

Everyone starts out a square. Unless you are older when you start, then you would have more control. I started at 18 and was as square as could be. Lost a lot to locals then to betonsports.

The exact thing that I'm worried about. At 19, I just got my first CC 2 months ago and put in a $600 deposit. I've been really hot so far, but I know its just been luck. Despite that, I can't help but up my bets into probably-not-safe territory, and I know its going to bite me in the ass sooner or later. Discipline is a tricky thing.

I lost every year for about 10 years. Probably avg was about $10k a year. Last 10 years ive won 3-4 years and lost the rest.

I'm curious as to why you think you've lost the majority of the last ten years? (Besides the obvious of not picking enough winners.)

Is it a lack of discipline, chasing losses, money management, betting too many sports?

Hmm... well for me, its lack of capping.

I break even or win a little when I cap hard and manage money properly. The last few years ive been busy, just had time for gut capping and that just doesnt work.

I started out playing the horses at 19 years old. Was successful but had a father that told me I needed a "real" job. Got the real job and bet far more now than I did back then. Have had success with NFL for all but 5 years during the past 20. But as John said you have to work on your capping because gut capping doesn't work. When I played horses every day I put in more hours working (capping) than I did in almost any job I"ve had.

Actually won in my rookie year...........I was 8 years old and bet a friend a nickel on the world series.
But, seriously I don't remember the $ figure.............It was long ago and a dollar went a lot farther then, so the correlation is off. But, the first 2-3 years , before I learned the ropes, were frustrating & losers.
