A month-long investigation by state police has shut down an online gambling web site and landed a group of men from nearly 2,000 miles away in jail. Nicholas Jenkins, Josie Imlay, and Peter Abrahamsen have been booked on illegal gambling charges.
The trio is accused of allowing Louisiana residents to place electronic bets on their web site, "Betcha," which is based out of Seattle, Washington.
It allows people to place bets on anything from sports to poker, and even puts them in touch with others who like to gamble. Whatever the bet may be, it is illegal to gamble on-line in Louisiana.
Lt. Lawrence McLeary with Louisiana State Police says, "Initially, they told the operator to cease and desist, just don't do it anymore. He told them, ‘No, I am going to continue to operate my site.'"
The three guys flew all the way from Seattle and turned themselves in to authorities at the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office.
They were released Wednesday morning on $20,000 bond each.
