Default My dad has $50 on the Indians to win the World Series, But.....

he is a die hard Red Sox. My Dad was born and raised in Boston and loves the Red Sox's more than anything.

If you were in his situation who would you root for?

    He has Indians @ +900

$500 bucks compared to something he "loves more than anything"? I'd imagine he'd be for the Red Sox all the way, and just look at the $500 as potential "consolation money." I know I'd contribute substantially more than that if I could have one of my alma maters win the national championship in football....

If it was a single game, root for the bet to win and if you lose hey at least your favorite team won.
But.. as a die hard fan root for you have to root for your team to win the championship - otherwise why be a fan? if your team loses at least you got some cash.

I asked him, and he said it's going to be a sweet and sour victory no matter what happens.

I think my dad knew what he was doing here LOL.

He could offset his bet for a sure small profit, and then cheer his Sox on to the WS. Matchbook has Cleveland to "not" win the world series at -350 (Pinnacle has -312, but not an option for US). By betting 350/100 against Cleve, he's locked in a small profit, so the money is no longer a concern. Just a thought.

Well Cleve has no shot so he should be happy if Red Sox win

Root for the money, the Red Sox have never given a dime and wouldn't care what happens to him.

Default I thought people checked out of being fans when they found out pro wrestling was fake

Even the players in pro sports don't give a rats ass care for the team they won a title for the day after the super bowl, world series,NBA championship or Stanley Cup is over. They don't even have a party anymore the night of the win, they go home and have a meeting with their agent as to who they will strike a deal with next year.

I'm from Minnesota and I used to take a few trips to Vegas on the plane every year.No matter how bad the game was to bet on,dumb ass Minnesota people would be rabid fans of the Vikings and Twins and had blinders on where they would feel obligated to bet on them covering. Then when you got to the sportsbook you would see the wise guys yelling for the Twins to lose in the 1st half of a double header and yelling for them to win in the 2nd game.

I think only people that took the short bus to school can actually be true fans of any sports team these days.If you still think of being a fan of a team, you might as well still believe in Santa, the tooth fairie and the Easter Bunny because they all will do as much good for you as rooting for a bunch of pampered and obnoxious ingrate athletes.

How deep do you want to get with this? It's today's mentality in general. The average worker (particularly in America) feels like they're doing their boss a favor by putting in any sort of effort on the job, and if they do anything exceptional they feel they should get some sort of tangible reinforcement on the spot everytime. Unfortunately we're seeing this greed take over other leagues worldwide as well. I still think you see certain teams from time to time that just somehow bond really well and take pride as a team, and of course there still remain a few exceptional markets where the fans are so diehard behind their team that the individual players have no choice but to be in awe of the mystique surrounding them. But for the most part, most professional athletes could give a shit for their current team and city...

IMGV in all seriousness I think it all depends on how much this money means to your Dad. It sounds like it would mean a lot to him. If he spent half of his month's retirement check getting down that bet, and that money would allow him to do a few things next month that he wouldn't otherwise do, than of course I'd root for the Indians. One of my best friends is an associate athletic director at a major 1A program, and I've had enough coin against that team numerous times such that I've rooted against them with all my heart.

Obviously if it's not a huge sum to him then I'd root for what I'm passionate about. However, if he's been holding on to this ticket all year and has called you about it numerous times he's so anxious about it, then I'd root for the Injuns all the way. GL to your Dad either way...

My dad thinks Cleveland sweeps Colorado. HAHA

He made the wager through my account so if they win I'll have to pay him off which is cool cause bookmaker is a good book and I wouldn't mind having an extra $500 in there.
