I was wondering if anyone knew who and/or how many
different people make the lines? I read somewhere that
cris used to have a guy that originates the line but he
went somewhere else. The reason I ask this is with so
many sportsbooks out there the lines always seem to be
about the same. What do some of them do? wait for
other books to post lines then post theirs??

In the NFL I see Oly and CRIS open their lines on SBRLines while the afternoon games are still being played and they swing wildly for about 30 minutes.

oly posts nba lines before cris

oly posts wnba lines before cris


Cris only posts ncaa football lines before Oly but OLy posts ncaa football totals before cris

I would say the lines originate at Oly and Pinnacle

Spiro at Olympic only uses one consultant before putting up lines, don't remember his name, but it isn't Las Vegas Sports Consultants.

i've heard there is a group of 5-6 guys together in vegas who put opening lines and then sportsbooks then adjust or tweak in house.

I think it is a group of guys in Vegas who set the lines over the course of a few hours then realse them. Vegas sportsbooks and offshores then adjust them slightly according to their clientale and expected action.

Seems like it would be more complicated but that is really it.

laker, spiro mentioned in a chat one night, that he relies on his own people. when it comes to openers. but, like you said i can't remember either off hand.

I know there is a formula to make a line. I remember only
vaguely how it is performed.

That's the way it use to be and they are called Las Vegas Sports Consultants. Now it originates offshore. One of the head guys at LVSC left and is trying to start his own business to compete with LVSC.

"Roxy" was the original owner of LVSC. As you guys have posted there are a couple of guys that sit around at a table and discuss the lines. Each has his own specialty. They then send the lines out to the books so that the book can then set their lines.

Roxy sold LVSC and now there is competition to get the lines out first. Offshore is now ahead of Vegas.

I know a place where you can get the line before it's chewed over all day or all week. Come to think of it, not much time or thought goes into the lines at this place.

It's called halftime.

In a real way, the person who sets the line is whoever is willing to bet the opening lines. The books are setting a baseline to start from, but they're not attached to it at all. If you have a large bankroll and you say -7, then the game is going to be -7 in a few minutes.

The persons name is Michael Roxboro and his lines were known as the "Roxy Line" he is origianlly out of Toronto, Canada. He moved to Vegas in the 80's and took a job with one of the big books. Where he went and/or did after that , I do dont know. He surely was and probably still is one of the best odds makers.
