It is bull. You can't call a TO at the very last second as the kicker is already set in his motion. If you want to ice him, just call the timeout as the holder is getting ready and make the kicker "think it over". But to call it at the VERY last possible second as the ball is being snapped where the kicker has no chance of stopping his motion is messed up.

Well, if it is legal, why not make him waste his energy making a kick that doesn't count? The real question is should this tactic be made illegal. As long as it is not deemed illegal, you really can't blame the coaches if they keep on doing it.

I played high school football. If the mother ****ers did this to me, I would do a 2 point conversion the next play, out of a PAT formation.

A timeout just before the PAT doesn't just throw the kicker off. It throws the kick blockers off too.

For the field goal attempt, I think it is more serious. I think this nonsense should be banned.

I said the same thing in another thread. It's become a joke. Once the umpire puts the ball down on FGs, that's it, play goes. Enough of this nonsense.

i agree, i already had this discussion on another thread a couple weeks ago from the Gators game. the refs should be on the field watching the play ,not standing over on the sideline with the coach hanging on their arm waiting till the last split second to call a TO. i think the defense should only be allowed. like let the O get set, then act like your getting set, then stand up and call a TO. because then everyone can "see" it. when everyone is cheering and you wait till the last split second to tell a ref on the sideline, no one is going to hear him or much less notice him.

This is not something that is new or anything.
I personally don't mind it, seeing a fake game winning FG played out before the real one adds to the drama too making for better TV.

terrible rule --- this should not be allowed. Maybe if the following starts happening - first kick missed, 2nd kick made -- it will cut down on this ridiculous and unfair tactic.

I'm pretty much with you on this.

It's legal right now. If I was the coach, I'd do it to.

Now, if they want to change the rules in the off-season, I have no problem with that either.

I don't see the big deal... So what if they do it... It's taking a timeout.. Why is that a bigdeal..? It happens now because it worked when someone else tried it... Everyone is a bandwagoner and it's the same in the NFL... When it doesn't work a few times like last night they'll stop doing it on their own... No need to even address it...

This has become possible after they changed the rule allowing coaches to call TOs from the sidelines rather than have players on field call TO. I personally find it VERY bush league and am offended that a coach would breach sportsmanship like that. Lane Kiffin is a dirty dog to use that tactic one week after he was himself hoodwinked by it. Theres no place in the NFL for such asisnine postering. Millions of dollars are being decided on a coach being a little weasel or not, and I hate it.

Sweet redemption would be if a kicker misses the first attempt but nails the second...just wait, its going to happen. And when it does, the coach is going to lobby that he didnt get the TO off in time. Just wait....

this not cheesy at all. this is perfectly acceptable and should be within all rules. it's all about pressure on the field and if you can't handle it the get off the field. its supposed to be a tough game emotionally and physically

What is the longest kick you ever made?

42 but never made or attempted a game winning kick... The closest I ever came was a FG I hit from 28 yards (right hash) and actually the other team took a timeout before we set up... I am glad they did... I went through my form and it seemed like it shook the nerves right off of me... I was nervous as hell going out there... I hit it with 11 secs. left but after the kickoff they threw a bomb and our DB's ran into each other going for the ball... They scored a TD on that last play (80 yards)... The very next year same team I hit an extra point to make it 7-6 with a little over a minute left... They scored a TD AGAIN on the last play of 18 yards...

I think it is ridiculous and that it is cheating. The NFL should not allow it once everybody is set that should be it.
