I consider myself to be a "casual" player and try to keep no more than $200-$500 dollars in my account at anytime since the anti-gambling legislation passed. Prior to the legislation, I kept a range of money from $500 to $1500 in my account, but after struggling to get a check from my book after that crappy law passed, I am wary of keeping anything beyond $500 in there. I usually limit my plays to $5 to $10 (sometimes going as high as $50 - but only if it is within my bankroll limits), and keep a strong limit regarding a maximum amount I can bet per year (save some for the super bowl.....).

I would guess that anything over $5000 in your account would throw you beyond the limits of a casual player, but I am so small time that the estimate of $5000 is just a guess.

I see players throwing amounts over $1,000 to well over $10,000 concerning single bets, and can only imagine what the limits of their accounts are. Also books that do not cater to pros limit the size amount for certain bets.

You know, thinking about how much some people spend in AC for a single weekend on the slot machines and comparing that with my pittance of a bankroll, it is a wonder that the Feds think we small time sports bettors are worthy of their attention.

I believe recreational could be in the range of $50-$500. With professional play being $500+

if you pay your rent and food with gambling, then you're a pro.

if you're playing for the fun of it, then you're rec.

i am a rec, but i don't use any rec. books.

You can't be a pro betting $35. Some pros make lots of small money bets, but the difference is they are betting the limit. A lot of bets I make the limit is $50-200.

I think it depends on what else you may do for a living. If Gambling is your source of income then you are a pro. If you can say you have another professional job you are probably not a pro

    Good post.

What is everybody's fascination with labels, whether it be pro, sharp, etc.?

If you bet small, you are likely a recreational bettor.

If you bet large, you are likely either a professional or a whale who has sports gambling as one of his/her many hobbies.

I'm not a pro but I have 1 advice for all the new players here is never overbet your bankroll.

I used the 5% BR system to bet on my game. If I have 2k BR then I'll never bet more than $100 in a game.
All the bets will be depend on your units with 1unit to 10 units depend on which system you use and how you use it.

Best way to start build your BR of $500 is bet $10-$25 a game.
When you build your roll up to $1k then you can start bet more from $10-$50 a game.

    I hope this will help.
