Default happy boy is sad boy

Well what can I say gang.
This has been arguably the worst weekend in recent memory for me. I'm not looking for sympathy, please allow me to vent. It all started Saturday night. If you read my thread on Uwager what the f**k I got jabbed for 200.00 Yeah, I know it's not allot of doe but it tends to start the wheels falling off the cart syndrome. It culminated with my beloved Dolphins sticking it to me today. I deserved that one. I congratulate all the posters who took the Raiders. That all said what to do now. Well Ill tell you.and hopefully this thread comes as an aid to all my degenerate friends that post on SBR. It would be a natural reaction to STEAM and start making dumb wagers. I think the solution although not a guarantee to remedy my situation is the following.

    1. Re-up with a better sports book.
    2. take a step back, no more bets this week. Maybe no bets next week.
    3. reduce my wagers and start using a well managed units system.
    4. STOP listening to others who may or may not sway u in the right direction.
    5. look for value
    6. Remember its the start of October, lots of action still ahead so be patient, hopefully I can still turn it around.
    7. and if all else fails remember this is gambling, no matter how smart we think we are there are no guarantees in this animal. Sometimes you have to say "this is not my year" Hopefully it still can be.

Sorry for the long thread I just had to lick my wounds and share it with friends. I wish all my SBR brothers good luck, and again special thanks to my bud BBD who has always looked out for me.

    Happy Boy,

I had a bad day too. I've started a well managed unit system and haven't risk too much.

I suggest you do the same thing. I had a horrible day and only lost 5% of my bankroll.

    You're a good man.

What I do when I hit a bad spell is lower my bet size drastically and spend my time reading all the handicapping posts and writing down the poster's name, their picks, and the results. Then I try to find people on here who know what they are talking about. Then on game day I see what plays these people are making. Sonny The Kid was hot as a firecracker in baseball for a while. You have to look over several weeks or even months because anyone can get lucky one weekend. Sportsgirl had a ridiculously good week the one week I saw her picks. I was glad I didn't follow her picks the next week because I think she went something like 2-12. Trifectabx's OVER/UNDER plays on baseball were on a tear for the entire time after the all star break, except for a few weeks when Trifecta stopped betting them for some reason. I think his wife got mad at him for betting or something. LOL There's a guy named Bradley, can't remember his full screen name, he's pretty good most of the time. There are many others who usually give great picks. On a consistent basis, that is. Fading JJGold is the true path to riches, though. LOL

thats hilarious! i'm in like 11 leagues and try to have as many different players on all teams, so i can follow whos doing what. you would think with as many different teams and players i have, one of my teams would have a winning day, but NO, they all sucked.

Sorry to hear about the bad run, HB.

My advice. Set a weekly maximum amount that you will risk. In my opinion, it should be set very conservatively, like at an amount that will allow you to still sleep at night if you lose about 70% of it over the season. Stick to that maximum.

Also -- and this is the hard part -- in my opinion, when you are losing, you must either keep the maximum as it is, or even adjust it downward. Never adjust your maximum risk upward in an attempt to get your losses back. I dealt cards for a while in Nevada, and I can tell you that when I saw a gambler start upping their bet, desperately trying to get even, I always sensed that the bloody end was near, and I was right about 90% of the time.

That's how I look at it, and it has worked well for quite a long time. I know I'm not the world's greatest handicapper, and that I will likely always have to have my day job. But I have fun picking teams, and am not risking anything that could really much affect me or my loved ones.

Good luck, HB. Your luck will turn.

Happy Boy sorry to hear about your tough weekend. Back when I was in Vegas even though I'm pretty disciplined, several times after I started losing I would steam or tilt or whatever you want to call it as well and lose much more $$$ then I intended to that day. Later I couldn't believe it was me, how did my discipline break down? Just the way it is for some people I guess, the weakness of human condition.

Anyway what helped me out a lot was eventually I would only take with me the cash I was willing to lose, and I kept my ATM and ************ either at home or in my car, then I would park my car at one casino and walk 15 minutes to another casino. That way if I lost my cash I had to take at least a little break (and some exercise) to get to my car and back.

That was just enough of a break to calm me down and accept the fact that I lost my money, too bad, tomorrow is another day. I never made it to my car to get the ATM card after that decision and never tilted again.

So that's really hard to do nowadays when the internet is only a click away, but if you're steaming immediately after a loss or couple of losses, maybe you should watch the games somewhere away from your home, maybe walking distance away at a bar (but only drink coffee!) or somewhere where there is some physical separation between you and your ability to get to your internet accounts, if you lose hopefully you'll have calmed down by the time you get back home.

It may be a goofy suggestion in this day and age, but thought I'd throw it in the mix of other suggestions, you never know what'll help. Good luck.

Shit, it isn't about the money anyway. Just get better at handicapping. Don't worry about winning, just track your plays, post your analysis and rock on. No need to bet, especially if you're a losing player.
